West Central at Lennox

LENNOX — A pair of 2-1 Dak-XII Conference football foes will clash on Sept. 19.

Class 11A No. 3 Lennox (2-1) will play at Class 11A No. 5 West Central (2-1) in a top-five matchup.

The Orioles are coming off a loss against No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian, a 17-0 setback in a rematch of last season’s Class 11A state championship.

In Lennox’s 66-13 win over Custer on Sept. 5, Lennox QB Jhaimann Huntington passed for 129 yards and four touchdown passes. Lennox wide receiver Drake Mikkelsen hauled in five catches for 77 yards and caught four touchdown receptions. Ramsey Williams added nine carries for 106 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

The Trojans dropped their first game of the season against Sioux Falls Christian, 24-0, but are coming off two straight wins. In last week’s 35-6 win over McCook Central/Montrose,

Trojans totaled 342 yards — 178 on the ground and 164 through the air. Carter Gross tossed a passing touchdown to Hayden Heier and added a rushing score. Eli Mundahl and Braylon Robbins scored rushing touchdowns, while Boche Knight scored on a 40-yard punt return.

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy at Alcester-Hudson

ALCESTER — Another week, another top-tier opponent for both Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy and Alcester-Hudson.

Class 9AA No. 1 FMFA (4-0) plays at Class 9A No. 3 Alcester-Hudson (4-0) in a marquee nine-man matchup on Sept. 19. It continues a trend of high-quality opponents for both teams.

The Phoenix have earned wins over ranked teams Parkston (20-6) and Elkton-Lake Benton (42-28), while also defeating Bon Homme (57-7) and Gayville-Volin (61-6). The Cubs, meanwhile, began their season with a 40-29 win over then-No. 1 Howard, last season’s Class 9A state champs. Alcester-Hudson has also defeated ranked teams Centerville (26-21) and Viborg-Hurley (28-26), while it also topped Irene-Wakonda (41-8).

That sets the stage for the Sept. 19 matchup in Alcester.

In last week’s 61-6 win over Gayville-Volin, FMFA’s Luke Peters rushed for 75 yards and scored two touchdowns. Peters also scored on a blocked punt. Riley Tschetter tossed three passing touchdowns to Peters, Tate Sorensen and David Walter. Karter Weber added a punt return for a score. Easton Tschetter returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown. Axle Schultz added a rushing touchdown.

The Phoenix rushed for 243 yards.

In last week’s 28-26 win over Viborg-Hurley, Andrew Bovill and Darin Dykstra converted a hook-and-ladder to score a touchdown in the closing seconds for the win. The Cubs tallied 198 total yards and forced the Cougars into four turnovers.

Dell Rapids St. Mary at Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Dell Rapids St. Mary looks to stay unbeaten in Class 9B on Sept. 19.

The Class B No. 3 Cardinals (4-0) take on Centerville (2-1) in a cross-class matchup in nine-man football.

DRSM has cruised through its first four games of the season, outscoring opponents 216-12, including two shutout victories over Irene-Wakonda (52-0) and Arlington (52-0). The Cardinals most recently beat Colman-Egan on Sept. 12, 54-6. Seniors Trimmier Hanson and Lincoln LeBrun have led the charge this season for the Cardinals. Hanson rushed 20 times for 244 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win while LeBrun added 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries. LeBrun also had a pick-six in the win as well.

Centerville sits at 2-1 on the season and sits just outside of the top-5 in the prep media poll with five total points. The Tornadoes jumped out of the gate with a 28-8 win over Deubrook Area, before dropping to Alcester-Hudson, 26-21. Centerville most recently defeated Garretson, 35-21, on Sept. 5. The Tornadoes will have two full weeks to prepare for the Cardinals and as it looks to upset a top-ranked team in 9B. Centerville is led by senior quarterback Alec Austin, who passed for 345 yards and three touchdowns in their loss to Alcester-Hudson on Aug. 29. Hogan Hybertson, Charlie Eide, Corbin Tople and Noah Schoenfelder are some of the top pass catchers for Austin and the Tornado offense.

Huron at Sturgis

STURGIS — The red-hot Tigers travel out west on Sept. 19 for its fourth consecutive matchup with a Class 11AA ranked opponent.

Class 11AA No. 2 Huron (2-1) is starting to look the part after back-to-back wins over two of the top-teams in 11AA football. The Tigers knocked off Pierre, 13-7, two weeks ago thanks to the late heroics of a pick-six from Jeremy Hofer, before shutting out Tea Area (16-0) last Friday. The Tigers will now face 11AA No. 3 Sturgis Brown, marking its fourth matchup against a ranked opponent after facing No. 1 Yankton in a 41-24 loss to open the season. The Tigers are led by quarterback Anderson Porisch, who has thrown for 320 yards and a touchdown this season. Porisch has also thrown five interceptions as well. Landon Hulst has led the rushing game totaling 226 yards and two touchdowns on just 33 carries. Porisch is second on the team in rushing with 102 yards and two touchdowns. Senior linebacker Oakley Anderson patrols the defense with 49 tackles this season, including three tackles for loss.

The Scoopers (3-0) have an impressive resume to start the year as well, including the likes of a 26-21 win over Brookings, a shutout win over Douglas, and a win over 11AAA foe Rapid City Stevens (41-10). Sturgis Brown is just one of two teams still unbeaten, and look to keep that trend going Friday night.

Sioux Falls Jefferson vs. Sioux Falls Lincoln

SIOUX FALLS — Two of the last three undefeated teams in Class 11AAA teams will clash on Sept. 19.

Class 11AAA No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln (3-0) will play Class 11AAA No. 3 Sioux Falls Jefferson (3-0) in a top-five contest. Brandon Valley (3-0) is the other undefeated team in the class.

Yankton at Harrisburg

HARRISBURG — The No. 1 ranked team in Class 11AA takes a trip north to take on Class 11AAA No. 4 Harrisburg on Sept. 20.

Class 11AA No. 1 Yankton has their toughest opponent to date after a 3-0 start in the 2025 season. The Bucks started the year with a 41-24 win over No. 2 Huron, before back-to-back wins over Watertown (52-26) and Douglas (63-6).
