PLATTE — Platte-Geddes turned a shootout into a 36-point victory on Friday.

Class 9A No. 4 Platte-Geddes broke away from Lyman for a 64-28 high school football win, improving to 6-0 on the season.

The Raiders (3-2) traded touchdown for touchdown with the Black Panthers through the first quarter, and held a 22-14 lead early in the second quarter. But Platte-Geddes rattled off 38 unanswered points, extending their lead to 52-22 en route to the victory.

“I think turnovers turned it over and just a little bit of adjustments in the second half on our coverage helped,” Platte-Geddes coach Bruce Hanson said.

The Black Panthers allowed Lyman to score just six points in the second half, while their offense scored 36 points and took advantage of Lyman’s turnovers.

“We made the adjustments we needed,” Platte-Geddes quarterback/cornerback Jye Bailey said. “We rallied to the ball every time. We knew they were good at passing. We made the adjustments we needed and got the job done.”

Bailey and running back Kenyon Kuiper were a two-man wrecking crew on Friday. The senior duo combined for eight of Platte-Geddes’ nine touchdowns.

“We’ve been good all year offensively,” Kuiper said. “If one thing is not working we resort to another. That helps a lot because we’ve got guys that can make plays.”

Bailey and Kuiper scored all their touchdowns on the ground, while they also connected for a 48-yard TD pass.

“We got a great combination,” Hanson said. “They get all the credit, but those guys up front are doing a lot of good things.”

Lyman’s Lane Olivier gave the Raiders a 22-14 lead with 10:05 left in the second quarter. But Bailey scored less than a minute later on a 75-yard touchdown jaunt, evening the score at 22-22. After a Lyman fumble, Kuiper added a seven-yard TD run and Lyman led 28-22 at halftime.

The Bailey and Kuiper Show continued in the third quarter, with the duo combining for three touchdowns, pushing the lead to 52-22. Lyman’s Conway Collins scored a 24-yard touchdown run to momentarily stop the bleeding, but Bailey added a six-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter.

Platte-Geddes’ Bohde Kuiper added a touchdown run in the waning moments to reach the final margin.

Lyman will play at New Underwood on Oct. 3. Platte-Geddes, meanwhile, has a key conference game against Parkston on Oct. 3. The Class 9AA No. 5 Trojans picked up a 70-21 win over Bon Homme on Friday.

“Parkston is a good team,” Hanson said. “We will plan accordingly and our conference is tough. It will be a physical matchup.”
