SIOUX FALLS — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Jeffery Boschee successfully defended his high jump state championship on Thursday.

The SCW junior soared to 6-feet, 7.25 inches to secure his second straight Class A high jump championship at the state track and field meet.

“It felt good,” Boschee said. “I came in confident the whole time. I did what I said I was going to do, keep my legs loose and just hope for the best.”

Boschee held off Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reed Rus, a fellow region competitor for the state championship. Rus finished second at 6-4 in their last time competing against each other in the high jump.

“We are good friends,” Boschee said. “We are always jumping against each other. So why not be friends. So it’s fun to compete against him.”

Boschee added competing against Rus in high jump brought out the best in him, while he was also happy for his fellow competitor.

“I was very excited he got 6-4,” Boschee said. “I was happy for him. If he would have won, heck I don’t care it would have been awesome. I would have been happy for him.”

Instead, it was Boschee who again soared to the top of the Class A field. Boschee took three attempts at 6-8.25, but failed to successfully clear the height.

But that is already on his mind for next season.

“I am feeling really, really good,” he said. “My knee is hurting a little bit. But I am excited for next year. Next year is going to be good.”
