Sioux Falls Christian sweeps Class A state track and field meet titles

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Christian swept the Class A state track and field titles on Saturday.

The Charger boys won their state championship in dramatic fashion, edging Custer by two points for the state title. 

The Wildcats were clinging to a two-point lead entering the 1,600-meter relay, the last race of the day. 

The Chargers won the 1,600-meter relay in 3:26.08, earning 10 points and moving ahead of Custer for the state championship. Sioux Falls Christian finished with 68 points, while Custer scored 66 points. 

It was Sioux Falls Christian’s fourth straight state boys championship. 

On the girls side, Sioux Falls Christian again showed its depth and erupted for 130.5 points, finishing ahead of Lennox (55.5) and Custer (54). 

The Chargers scored in all but seven events and piled up a whopping 19 points in the 800-meter run. Sioux Falls Christian also scored 10 or more points in nine total events. 

It was Sioux Falls Christian’s third straight Class A state championship.
