Sioux Falls Christian track teams win titles at Dakota Valley Relays

NORTH SIOUX CITY — The Sioux Falls Christian girls won the team title at Tuesday’s Dakota Valley Invitational scoring 161.5 points, ahead of Elk Point-Jefferson (96) and Dakota Valley (87.5). Lennox (71) and Tea Area (63) rounded out the top-five teams. 

The Sioux Falls Christian boys scored 153 points, ahead of Lennox (87) and Ethan/Parkston (86.83). West Central (62) and Vermillion (55) rounded out the top-five teams.

The Sioux Falls Christian girls won the 400-meter relay (:49.90), 3,200-meter relay (10:01.10), sprint medley relay (4:25.02). The Chargers also earned wins from Anna Vyn in the 400-meter dash (:59.57), Ellie Maddox in the 800-meter run (2:18.19), Corinne Braun in the 1,600-meter run (5:10.20) and Rylee Punt in the pole vault (11-09). 

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Lauren McDermott finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.63) won the 300-meter hurdles (:47.42) and anchored EPJ’s 400-meter relay to a third place finish (:52.51). The Huskies were strong in the field events as Bentlee Kollbaum won the javelin (109-01), Grace Peed won the discus (117-11) with Paige Jacobs finishing second in the long jump (17-02).

Dakota Valley’s Silja Gunderson won the 100-meter dash (:12.10) and 100-meter hurdles (:14.80) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (:26.13). Panther Claire Munch won the triple jump (36-07) and Sophia Redler won the 3,200-meter run (11:36.16). 

Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal cleared 5-5 to win the girls high jump. 

Lennox seventh grader Bergen Musser won the long jump (17-03) and ran the opening leg on Lennox’s winning 1,600 meter relay (4:08.44). 

In boys action Sioux Falls Christian’s Bennett Wassenaar won the 200-meter dash (:23.11) 400-meter dash (:50.90) and ran a leg on the Chargers second-place 800-meter relay (1:35.49). Sioux Falls Christian’s Paul Hoekman won the shot put (61-01) and discus (158-00). 

Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert won the 100-meter dash (:11.20), the long jump (21-09.25) and ran the second leg on the winning 400-meter relay team (:44.79). Beresford’s Andrew Atwood won the 1,600-meter run (4:29.24) just ahead of Dakota Valley’s Joe Cross (4:32.54). 

West Central’s Liam Schmeichel won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.31) and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (:41.83) and third in the high jump (5-09). The Trojans won thee 800-meter relay (1:34.05) and the quartet of Elliot DeJong, Patrick Hammond, Jude Jarding and Benjamin Strunk won the sprint medley relay with Class A’s fastest time this season (3:41.95). 

Beresford’s Andrew Atwood won the 1,600-meter run (4:29.24) just ahead of Dakota Valley’s Joe Cross (4:32.54). Cross came back to win the 3,200-meter run (9:31.24). 

Lennox’s Cade Sherard won the 800-meter run (2:01.60) and teamed with Ethan Larson, Drake Mikkelsen and Cloy McVey to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:32.20),
