BROOKINGS — While Monday was a relatively quiet day for track and field across South Dakota, the Sioux Falls Lincoln track team was burning up the track at the Brookings quadrangular.

In the boys 100-meter dash, Sioux Falls Lincoln swept the top-five spots with Griffin Fischer (:10.74), Javin Augustus (:10.75) and Mikey Roche (:10.77) clocking the three fastest times in South Dakota this spring.

Shortly after those 100-meter dash efforts Fischer, Augustus and Roche teamed with Josh Myers (:10.93 in the 100-meter dash) to clock a (:42.35) in the 400-meter relay. That effort is the sixth fastest time in South Dakota history. All of the athletes on that relay team are underclassmen and will be taking aim at a school and state record (:41.98) from a Lincoln team in 2018.

The Sioux Falls Lincoln girls also had a solid day in the short sprints. Linnea Nesheim won the 100-meter dash (:12.18) while teammate Ellen Merkley finished second (:12.37). Pierre’s Kali Ringstmeyer has the fastest 100-meter dash time in South Dakota this spring (:12.16).

Lincoln senior Jack Smith uncorked an effort of 193-07 in the javelin Monday. That effort breaks the South Dakota state record of Harrisburg’s Carson Bennett (183-06) from 2023.
