SIOUX FALLS — Former Sioux Falls Roosevelt standout Marcus Phillips was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the MLB Draft Sunday.

The former Tennessee Volunteer finished the 2025 season with a 3.90 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 83 innings. Phillips was a 2025 Perfect Game Midseason All-American and was named the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Week on March 18.

Phillips, a 6-foot-4, 246-pound right-handed pitcher, is the fourth Tennessee player to be drafted in the first round and is likely the first South Dakotan to ever be drafted in the first round.
