St. Thomas More’s Reese Ross has been named the 2022-23 Gatorade South Dakota girls basketball player of the year.

Ross is the second Gatorade South Dakota Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from St. Thomas More High School, joining current South Dakota State University women’s basketball player Haleigh Timmer (2020-21).

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Ross as South Dakota’s best high school girls basketball player.

The 6-foot-1 senior forward led the Cavaliers to an 18-2 record, averaging 22.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.8 assists per game. She is the No. 1-ranked player in South Dakota’s Class of 2023 by PrepGirlsHoops.com. Ross volunteers locally on behalf of Meals on Wheels and she’s also an active member of her church community. Ross maintains a 3.92 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Utah this fall.
