Team South Dakota into 6th place as 14 athletes qualify for short go at National High School Finals Rodeo

GILLETTE, Wyo. — With just several hours remaining until the short go round at the National High School Finals Rodeo team South Dakota just keeps getting the job done. 

Several great performances from South Dakota athletes closed out the second go round. 

Custer’s Jestyn Woodward won his bull riding performance Friday night with a score of 82. Woodward enters the short go in 2nd place, while teammate Mason Moody of Letcher is currently 3rd.

South Dakota continues to do well in the saddle bronc competition as Newell’s Cade Costello (76) and Faith’s Trey Larson finished 1st and 2nd in their performance of the second go round. Hereford’s Thayne Elshere enters the short go in 3rd place while Costello is currently sitting in 10th place. 

Martin’s Isabel Risse had an 8.28 second run in her second go round of the goat tying. South Dakota is sending three athletes to the short go in goat tying with Brylee Grubb in 11th place and Risse and Jaysee Jones are tied for 12th. 


The South Dakota boys enter the short go round in 4th place in the team standings:
