Yankton athletes have top performances at First Dakota Relays

YANKTON — A solid day of performances for the Yankton track team at the First Dakota Relays on Thursday.

Austin Gobel won the 100-meter dash (:10.85), anchored Yankton’s winning 400-meter relay team (:43.65) and finished second in the long jump (20-2). For Yankton, Dylan Payer won the 800-meter run (1:58.50) and 3,200-meter run (9:57.58). Connor Slaba won the long jump (20-09) and Cale Hasselhorst won the triple jump (40-03.5)

Yankton’s Shae Rumsey won the 400-meter dash (:59.79), finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (:27.91) and anchored Yankton’s 800-meter relay to a second place finish (1:50.41) and anchored the 1,600-meter relay to a third-place finish (4:16.04).

In other boys action Mitchell’s Nathan McCormick won the 200-meter dash, ran a leg on Mitchell’s second place sprint medley relay (3:43.43) and finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (:11.38). 

Deubrook Area senior Jake Jorenby ran a leg on the second place 1,600-meter relay (3:30.23) and won the high jump (5-11). Gavin Landmark won the 400-meter dash (:52.04), finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:04.99), ran a leg on the 1600-meter relay and anchored Deubrook Area’s 3,200-meter relay to second place (8:22.35).

Madison sophomore Shane Veenhoff won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.49) and Wagner’s Jhett Breen won the 300-meter hurdles (:41.83).

The Sioux Falls Christian boys won the 1,600-meter relay (3:29.80) and the sprint medley relay (3:40.80). Paul Hoekman won the shot put (58-08.25) and the discus (149-07). 

Madison’s Aaron Hawkes cleared 14-06 to win the pole vault.

Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox won the 1,600-meter run (5:06.30) and ran the anchor leg on the winning sprint medley relay team (4:18.8). 

Sioux Falls Christian had a banner day with Anna Vyn winning the 800-meter run (2:22.68), Sadie Pettingill won the 3,200-meter run (11:27.44), Halle Braun won the 300-meter hurdles (:46.17). The Chargers captured the 400-meter relay (:51.04), the 800-meter relay (1:45.88), the

1,600-meter relay (4:05.63) and the 3,200-meter relay (9:40.86).

Dakota Valley’s Silja Gunderson won the 100-meter dash (:12.43) and the 100-meter hurdles (:15.03)

Mitchell’s Taylor won the shot put (35-04) and Brookings junior Logan Smidt won the javelin (106-02).
