WALL — Tanner Volmer scored three total touchdowns as Class 9A No. 2 blanked Philip in Friday high school football action. 

Volmer threw touchdown passes to Dawson Handcock and Levi Sharp, while he added a three-yard touchdown run. Jace Blasius scored on a kickoff return and Jace Mohr added a 43-yard rushing touchdown. 

Philip stats were unavailable. 


Avon 60, Colman-Egan 38

COLMAN — Aziah Meyer posted eight total touchdowns as Class 9B No. 1 Avon picked up a season-opening win on Friday.

Meyer rushed for 161 yards on 19 carries and scored six rushing touchdowns. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Grayson Ratzlaff added 103 yards rushing on 18 carries and a touchdown. Lane Mudder had 73 yards rushing on 18 carries. 

For Colman-Egan, Sutton Bunde, Hayden Parson and Zach Pederson rushed for touchdowns. Pearson had 87 yards rushing on 15 carries. Pearson added 122 yards passing and threw two touchdowns. Jackson Zwart hauled in 77 yards receiving and caught two touchdowns. Jack Mousel caught three catches for 48 yards. 

 

Corsica-Stickney 36, Hitchcock-Tulare 0 

HITCHCOCK — Class 9B No. 4 Corsica-Stickney blanked Hitchcock-Tulare in Friday high school football action. 

Waylon Bolle led the Jaguars with 142 yards rushing on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns. Tate Tolsma added 18 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Caden Baumiller added 77 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored a touchdown. 

Hitchcock-Tulare stats were unavailable. 


Ipswich 42, Timber Lake 0 

IPSWICH — A balanced offensive attack helped Ipswich roll to a win over Timber Lake in high school football action Friday in Ipswich. 

Kyle Hettich paced the Tigers with 99 yards rushing and touchdown runs of 32 and five yards. Hettich also hauled in two passes for 87 yards. Casey Geditz rushed for 87 yards and scored on a seven yard touchdown run, 

Cole Ducheneaux paced Timber Lake with 39 yards rushing while contributing 15 tackles on defense. Gabe Keller had 32 yards rushing while Hudson Gill contributed 12 tackles on defense.


Kimball/White Lake 20, De Smet 0

KIMBALL — Iden Myers rushed 130 yards as Kimball/White Lake blanked De Smet in high school action on Friday.

Myers carried the ball 11 times and scored a touchdown, while he posted 18 tackles on defense. Johnny Lenz added 21 yards rushing and 14 tackles. Park Sinclair passed for 28 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Keaton Christensen threw a 46-yard touchdown pass. Lucas Lenz hauled in 63 yards receiving and caught a touchdown pass. Nathan Mohnen had two interceptions on defense. 

 

Wagner 36, Chamberlain 8 

CHAMBERLAIN — Gannon Knebel rushed for five touchdowns as Wagner topped Chamberlain in Friday high school football action.

Knebel rushed for 140 yards and added 10 tackles on defense. Javian Pesicka added 70 yards rushing. Hunter Lhotak posted seven tackles and one sack. Brayden Kreber had three sacks. 

Chamberlain stats were unavailable.


Burke 61, Colome 12

BURKE — A punishing ground game and a big night from Gentry Bartling helped Burke roll to a win over Colome in high school football action Friday. 

Bartling scored on a 64-yard run, scored again on a 50-yard punt return and caught a three yard pass from Elijah Bartling for a third score. John Delong added 60 yards rushing with two touchdowns while Kaleb Schonebaum rushed for 34 yards and two touchdowns. 

Jonah Musser paced Colome rushing for 44 yards and a touchdown and added an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter. 

Viborg-Hurley 40, Canistota 20

CANISTOTA — Brenner Gerdes tossed four touchdown passes as Viborg-Hurley topped Class 9B No. 2 Canistota in Friday high school football action. 

Gerdes completed 7-of-16 pass attempts for 277 yards, throwing two touchdown passes to Nick Hanson. Gerdes posted six tackles on defense. Hanson hauled in four catches for 147 yards and had two sacks on defense. Brady Schroedermeier added a passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. Schroedermeier added six tackles on defense. Jacob Graves and Jake Austin both hauled touchdown receptions. Graves rushed for 34 yards, had a rushing touchdown and five tackles. Schroedermeier had six tackles, while Nolan Kolthoff had five tackles and an interception. 

For Canistota, Brady Scott completed 13-of-29 pass attempts for 154 yards and threw three touchdown passes. Scott added a rushing touchdown. Prayden Acheson had a rushing score and posted 9.5 tackles on defense. Levi Schroeder hauled in four catches for 65 yards and had a touchdown catch. Kaleb Hjermstad and Easton Miller caught touchdown passes. 

 

Herreid/Selby Area 46, Faith 8

SELBY — Herreid/Selby Area picked up a season-opening win over Faith on Friday. 

Jared Wiesbeck tossed passing touchdowns to Houston Hauge, Adonnais Mills and Noah Schuetzle. Wiesbeck completed 9-of-13 passes for 230 yards. Hauge caught three catches for 105 yards and had two touchdowns. Porter Gregg rushed for 121 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Hauge added a rushing touchdown. Dayton VanWell posted six tackles on defense. 

Cooper Schuelke scored Faith’s lone touchdown.


Irene-Wakonda 40, Sioux Falls Lutheran 20

IRENE — Irene-Wakonda ground out 378 yards of rushing on their way to a win over Sioux Falls Lutheran in high school football action Friday. 

Jens Hasen led Irene-Wakonda, rushing for 132 yards finding the endzone twice. Brody Johnke added 130 yards rushing and two scores while Max Pollman finished with 116 yards and two scores. Pollman led the Eagles with six tackles and an interception. 

Dante Johnson led Sioux Falls Lutheran with two rushing touchdowns, rushing for 76 yards. Sam Borg caught a 60-yard touchdown from Rowen Becker who finished with seven completions and 50-yards passing. 


Elkton-Lake Benton 42, Waubay-Summit 0 

ELKTON —- A balanced offensive attack helped Elkton-Lake Benton to a season opening win over Waubay-Summit in high school football action Friday. 

Blake DeVries led Elkton-Lake Benton rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Eliot Erickson added 78 rushing yards and had a touchdown. Myles Poindexter, Tanner Stein and Tanner Stein combined for six catches and 105 yards. Tanner Drietz caught one pass for six yards and a touchdown. 

Brooks Dolen led Waubay-Summit rushing for 38 yards while Dylan Rumpza added 23 yards on six carries. 


Elk Point-Jefferson 54, Parker 0

PARKER — A balanced offensive attack helped Class 11B No. 2 Elk Point-Jefferson shutout Parker in high school football action Friday. 

Elk Point-Jefferson quarterback Keaton Gale tossed four touchdown passes and threw for 219 yards. Ashton Fairbanks caught five passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Gunner Ewing led the Huskies with 77 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Beau Schmitz and Benjamin Trudeau combined for 126 rushing yards and two touchdowns. 

Michael Even led Parker with 53 yards rushing and 10 tackles. Landon Wieman threw for 127 yards with Colin Robertson hauling in five receptions for 56 yards. 


Flandreau 21, Deuel 0

CLEAR LAKE — Flandreau pitched a shutout against Deuel to start the 2024 high school football season. 

Flandreau’s Paul Parsley rushed for 67 yards, passed for 56 yards and scored two total touchdowns. He connected with Xavier Bien for a 10-yard touchdown reception. Parsley had five tackles on defense. Ben Ballard added a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown. Karter Headrick and Justin Klein had 31 rushing yards apiece. Cameron Flute posted 24 yards receiving. Hendrick added six tackles on defense. 

For Deuel, Aiden Sievers passed for 63 yards and rushed for 32 yards. Gavin Kloos added 46 rushing yards and six tackles on defense. Gabe Sather posted 45 yards receiving. Reed VanWormer posted seven tackles. 


Arlington 14, Sunshine Bible Academy 0

MILLER — The Arlington Cardinals pitched a shutout Friday earning a win over Sunshine Bible Academy in high school football action Friday. 

Jake Burns led Arlington rushing for 87 yards. Grayson Nielson added 41 yards of rushing and a 31-yard rushing touchdown. Kahne Hanson caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Leilan Farstad. Brecken Vossler led the defense with an interception and three fumble recoveries. 

Troy Paul led Sunshine Bible Academy rushing for 29 yards and added ten tackles on defense. Jimmy Burma caught three passes for 42 yards while adding nine tackles on defense. 


Sioux Valley 35, St. Thomas More 0

VOLGA — A punishing ground game helped Sioux Valley earn a win over St. Thomas More in high school football action Friday. 

Donovan Rose led the Cossacks with 206 yards rushing on 17 carries and scored on a 69-yard touchdown run. Brock Christopherson added 170 yards rushing with two rushing touchdowns, one of which went for 74-yards. Mitchell Guthmiller led the Sioux Valley defense with seven tackles and a sack. 

Josh Elder led St. Thomas More with 37 yards rushing while Max Speed caught four passes for 20 yards. Elder led the Cavaliers with 11 tackles.
