Hanson 11, Avon 10

ABERDEEN — Hanson scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off Avon in the Class B state quarterfinals on Thursday. The Beaverettes will face top-seeded Castlewood at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Rylee Furgeson had two RBIs on two hits, a triple, and a walk in the win, Neecee Suber, Delaney Jarding and Jacey Schoenrock each had two hits and an RBI, Marah Doyle collected two RBIs while Jozlynn Tegethoff and Haleigh Haiar each had an RBI on one hit in the win.

Schoenrock took the win on the mound in seven innings, allowing 10 runs on 14 hits and four walks, striking out five.

For Avon, Kaydence Metzger took the loss in 6.2 innings, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits and three walks, striking out five.

Pria Sesler had three RBIs on two hits, Metzger added three hits and an RBI, Brielle Voigt tallied two RBIs on two hits and a walk, Rilyn Thury tallied two hits and an RBI, Jordyn Voigt  totaled one RBI on one hit and two walks while Rowan Brandt and Kensley DeVries both had two hits in the loss.


Castlewood 7, Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy 3

ABERDEEN — Claire Horn struck out 11 batters as Castlewood moved past Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy in the Class B state softball quarterfinals on Thursday. The Warriors will face Hanson at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Horn allowed three runs on six hits and three walks in seven innings of work, striking out 11 to take the win on the mound.

Kayla Goens drove in three runs on two hits, Sophia Kudrna added two RBIs on one hit, Cydni Kudrna tallied two hits and two walks, Morgan Wilson had an RBI on one hit while Natalie Akin recorded two hits and an RBI in the win.

For FMFA, Harli Ross allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk in five innings, striking out seven.

Claire Loofbourrow added two RBIs on two hits while Samantha Fransen recorded an RBI on one hit in the loss.


McCook Central/Montrose 13, Redfield 0 (5 innings)

ABERDEEN — Zaidee Huls tossed five shutout innings as McCook Central/Montrose blanked Redfield in the Class B state quarterfinals on Thursday. The Fighting Cougars will face Gayville-Volin at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Huls allowed four hits and two walks in five shutout innings, striking out three on 62 pitches.

Josalyn Traupel had an RBI on a hit and a walk, Huls recorded two hits, a walk, and an RBI, Mya Morrison collected two RBIs on a hit and a walk while Landry Andal and Braylee Meyer both had three hits in the win.

For Redfield, Makayla Schulz allowed nine runs on eight hits and four walks in 2.2 innings.

Schulz, Octavia Paulsen, Mady Morrissette and Layla Hardie each had a hit in the loss.


Gayville-Volin 3, Florence-Henry 1

ABERDEEN — Jolie Westrum’s seven strong innings powered Gayville-Volin over Florence-Henry during the Class B state quarterfinals on Thursday. The Raiders will play McCook Central/Montrose at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Westrum allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk in seven complete innings, striking out two.

Paisley Dimmer had three hits and an RBI while Kendra Beeck and Ali Westrum both tallied two hits and an RBI in the win.

For FH, Elizabeth Reiter allowed three runs on 11 hits in seven innings, striking out six.

Taylor Vavruska had two hits in the loss.
