After jumping out to a 21-7 lead on Chamberlain, Scott Slotten's Belle Fourche Broncs found themselves in a tight game. The Cubs scored on their first possession of the third quarter and were threatening to score before senior Gabe Heck made a play to give the ball back to Belle Fourche.

“Gabe Heck is that dude,” Slotten said. “If you guys saw him without his pads you would say, 'oh, that's their guy huh', but he does what he's told, he's always flying around and comes up with big plays when he needs to.”

The fourth-down stop, inside the Cubs ten-yard line, gave the ball back to Belle Fourche who ground clock and scored to put the game out of reach.

“I thought the 18-play, 90-yard drive was huge for us,” he said. “That's very tough and takes a lot of focus to march down the field on 18 plays and not screw up.”

After dropping their first three games the Broncs have won two in a row and Slotten likes what he's seeing.

“On defense we knew they liked that quick passing game and we knew they were going to complete some of those but we had to make sure nothing got behind us,” he said. “We got them early with the pass and later on I thought we wore them down.”

The win pushes Belle Fourche into the heart of conference play and Slotten looks forward to the next four weeks.

“We move on to our conference schedule and we look forward to four Black Hills Conference bashes,” he said.
