Canistota's Josiah Schroeder, Chamberlain's Kinsey Evans claim cross-country titles in Salem

Canistota’s Josiah Schroeder and Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans captured individual titles at the McCook Central/Montrose Invitational on Tuesday in Salem. 

Schroeder covered the 5,000-meter distance in 17-minutes and :13.27 seconds, finishing just ahead of Chamberlain’s Dom Santiago (17:41.37). Ethan/Parkston’s Evan Bartelt (17:47.40), Garretson’s Preston Bohl (18:18.96) and Winner’s Joseph Laprath (18:39.61) rounded out the top five.

Ethan/Parkston won the boys team title with 28 points. Flandreau (30) and Deubrook Area (42) finished second and third, respectively. 

Evans won the 5,000-meter run in 20:25.24, while Ethan/Parkston’s Lindsey Roth (21:07.93) placed second. Freeman Academy/Marion’s Jada Koerner (21:32.34), Canistota’s Kara Roshone (21:50.77) and Deubrook Area’s Ellie Olsen (21:55.18) rounded out the top five. 

Chamberlain won the girls title with 12 points. Baltic (36) and Hanson (39) finished second and third, respectively. 


Tea Area girls, Dakota Valley boys win titles at Dakota Valley

Tea Area’s Jaycie Babb and Dakota Valley’s Blake Schmiedt claimed individual titles at the Dakota Valley Invitational on Tuesday. 

Babb won the 5,000-meter run in 18:48.99, while Lawton-Bronson, Iowa’s Jolee Mesz (19:45.56) finished second. Canton’s Grace Gannon (20:29.13), Tea Area’s Haley Korver (20:39.13) and Aubrey Kenyon (20:41.18) placed third-through-fifth, respectively. 

Tea Area scored 22 points to earn the girls team title. Canton (40) and Elk Point-Jefferson (41) finished second and third, respectively. 

Schmiedt won the 5,000-meter run in 15:32.46, finishing more than a minute ahead of EPJ’s Joe Cross (16:53.22). Dakota Valley’s Jack Brown (17:04.39), Tea Area’s Jace Rausch (17:18.19) and Irene-Wakonda’s Ethan Haich (17:24.73) rounded out the top five. 

Dakota Valley earned the team title with 15 points. Tea Area (45) and Sioux City East (48) finished second and third, respectively.
