PIERRE — Canton captured its fourth consecutive Class B state dual wrestling championship on Saturday. It was Canton’s sixth state championship since 2020. 

On Saturday, Canton defeated Parkston (59-14), Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (42-20) and Bon Homme/Avon (37-26) en route to the state championship. 

“I am just happy with our whole team effort,” Canton coach Jeremy Swenson. “The way they stepped up and grinded. We were going out and just laying down if things weren’t going our way. We fought through situations.” 

In the dual championship match, Aidan Kranz (190 pounds), Gunnar Swenson (285), Bode Walker (106), Cael Vander Broek (113), Lincoln Sehr (132), Shane Sehr (144), Camdyn Ockenga (150), Conner Giedd (157) and Tasyn Ockenga (175). 

Up next, Canton will compete in their region tournament and will gear up for the state wrestling tournament on Feb. 26-28 in Sioux Falls. 

“Right now we are focusing on regions,” Swenson said. “We don’t want to look too far ahead. The next thing is regions on our schedule.”
