SIOUX FALLS — The Canton girls wrestling team captured its elusive state championship on Saturday.

The C-Hawks, who have finished as state runner-ups every year since 2022, claimed its first-ever girls state championship on Saturday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. 

The C-Hawks totaled 169 points, finishing ahead of Watertown (131.5) and Spearfish (104). Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (94.5) and Madison (90) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Canton’s Brooke Warejcka (120 pounds) and Finley Evjen (125) won state championships for the C-Hawks. 

Madison’s Ella Coomes (100), Madison’s Jewel Vardsveen (105), Sturgis’ Annalee Pierson (110), McCook Central/Montrose’s Alexis Bryant (115), Harrisburg’s Regina Stoeser (130), Lemmon’s Quinn Butler (140), Hot Springs’ Sarah Rickenbach (145), Sioux Valley’s Summer Guthmiller (155), Vermillion’s Blair Merkwan (170), Watertown’s Allison Konrad (190) and Watertown’s Eden Hach (235) also won state championships.
