Canton holds Day 1 lead at state girls wrestling tournament

SIOUX FALLS — The Canton girls hold a 7.5-point lead over Watertown after Day 1 of the state wrestling tournament. 

Canton has 64 points, ahead of Watertown (56.5) and Spearfish (43). Sturgis (38), Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (37) and Hot Springs (37) round out the top-five teams.

Canton’s Brooke Warejcka (120 pounds), Finley Evjen (125), Lakynn Qualseth (145) and Natalia Long (190) advanced to the semifinals. 

For Watertown, Allison Konrad (190), Brooke Grajczyk (140), Brooklynn Randall (115), Eden Hach (235) and Olivia Anderson (120) are headed to the semifinals.
