Class B Roundup - Wolsey-Wessington holds off Jones County, advances to Class B semifinals

Wolsey-Wessington 53, Jones County 42

HURON — Leah Williams and Mya Boomsma combined for 29 points as No. 1 seed Wolsey-Wessington held off Jones County in the first round of the Class B girls state tournament Thursday. 

Williams led Wolsey-Wessington with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Boomsma poured in 14 points and corralled six rebounds. Mallory Miller chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds. 

Mallory Valburg led Jones County with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jolie Dugan added eight points while Emma Hunt chipped in with six points.

Wall 58, Sully Buttes 50

HURON — Paige Kjerstad and Nora Dinger combined for 42 points as Wall knocked off Sully Buttes in the first round of the Class B girls state tournament Thursday. 

Kjerstad led Wall with 25 points, five rebounds and four steals. Dinger finished with 17 points and three steals while Rhea Tucker chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds. 

Lydia Hill led Sully Buttes with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Stevie Wittler added 13 points and four rebounds for the Chargers. 


Ethan 55, Castlewood 53 (OT)

HURON — Three players scored in double figures as Ethan edged Castlewood at the Class B girls state tournament on Thursday. 

Madeline Bartscher led Ethan with 19 points and four rebounds. Marissa Storm and Ava Lingeman combined to make nine 3-pointers with each player scoring 15 points. Ella Pollreisz grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. 

Madeline Horn led Castlewood with 22 points, three rebounds and four steals. Mackenzie Everson pumped in 11 points while Presley Knecht chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. 


Viborg-Hurley 64, Howard 46 

HURON — Viborg-Hurley pulled away from Howard for a Class B girls basketball tournament on Thursday, 

Viborg-Hurley’s Denae Mach netted 25 points and hit five 3-pointers. Estelle Lee added 19 points and six assists. Coral Mason had nine points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Charley Nelson added five points. 

Howard’s Abby Aslesen recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds. Trinity Palmquist had 13 points. Kate Connor recorded eight points and eight boards.
