Class B girls basketball teams will start their march to the Huron Arena this week.

The Class B girls basketball tournament is March 13-15 in Huron. The Class B girls basketball region tournaments are Feb. 24-25 and 27. The SoDak 16 contests are March 6.

Here is a look at each Class B girls basketball region: 


Region 1B

Northwestern edged Warner for the No. 1 seed in Region 1B.

The Wildcats recorded 43.600 points, finishing ahead of the Monarchs by .550 points. The teams received first-round byes as a result of earning the top-two seeds. 

Northwestern will play the Waverly-South Shore vs. Leola/Frederick Area winner on Feb. 25. The Wildcats defeated the Titans (49-30) and Coyotes (33-23) during the regular season.

Waverly-South Shore defeated Leola/Frederick (40-24) during the regular season. 

Warner will play the Langford Area vs. Aberdeen Christian winner on Feb. 25. The Monarchs defeated Langford Area (47-41) and Aberdeen Christian (54-9) during the regular season. 

Langford Area defeated Aberdeen Christian (49-28) in the regular season.

Hitchcock-Tulare plays Wilmot and Waubay/Summit plays Tiospa Zina in the other first-round matchups. It will be the first meetings of the season for each respective matchup. 

Feb. 24 

No. 8 Waverly-South Shore (6-13) vs. No. 9 Leola-Frederick Area (5-15), 7 p.m., CT, Waverly-South Shore High School

No. 7 Langford Area (8-12) vs. No. 10 Aberdeen Christian (0-20), 7 p.m., CT, Langford 

Feb. 25 

No. 1 Northwestern (15-5) vs. Waverly-South Shore or Leola-Frederick Area, TBD 

No. 4 Hitchcock-Tulare (10-10) vs. No. 5 Wilmot (10-10), TBD

Region 2B

Deubrook Area earned the region’s No. 1 seed, finishing 1.200 points ahead of No. 2 seed De Smet. 

Deubrook Area will play the Iroquois-Lake Preston vs. Oldham-Ramona/Rutland winner on Feb. 25. The Dolphins defeated the Sharks (58-16) and Raiders (64-25) during the regular season. 

Iroquois/Lake Preston defeated ORR (61-58) in the season opener. 

No. 2 De Smet will play the Estelline-Hendricks vs. James Valley Christian winner on Feb. 25. The Bulldogs defeated the Redhawks (61-28) during the regular season, but did not play JVC. Estelline/Hendricks defeated JVC (72-24) during the regular season. 

Castlewood plays Wessington Springs and Arlington plays Wolsey-Wessington in the other first-round matchup. It is the first meeting this season for both respective matchups. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 Iroquois/Lake Preston (6-14) vs. No. 9 Oldham-Ramona-Rutland (4-14), 7 p.m., CT, Lake Preston

Region 3B

Winners of its last five games, Ethan earned the No. 1 seed among a crowded field of teams in Region 3B. 

The Rustlers, who have qualified for nine state tournaments since 2015, finished 17-3 this season and are one of five teams with 14 or more wins. Ethan will play Canistota or Flandreau Indian on Feb. 25. 

Ethan defeated Canistota (65-21) during the regular season, but it did not play Flandreau Indian. Canistota and Flandreau Indian have not played this season. 

No. 2 Colman-Egan, which is on a 12-game winning streak, put together an 18-2 season. The Hawks will play Bridgewater-Emery, a team they defeated 70-32 on Feb. 4.

No. 3 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, which handed Ethan its last defeat, is on a five-game winning streak entering postseason play. The Blackhawks will play Howard in a rematch from a Jan. 9 contest, a 52-38 SCW victory.

No. 4 Dell Rapids St. Mary plays No. 5 Chester in a matchup of two 14-6 teams. DRSM won the regular-season meeting, 54-44. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 Canistota (4-16) vs. No. 9 Flandreau Indian (3-15), 7 p.m., CT, Canistota

Feb. 25

No. 1 Ethan (17-3) vs. No. 8 Canistota or No. 9 Flandreau Indian, 7 p.m., CT, Ethan

No. 4 Dell Rapids St. Mary (14-6) vs. No. 5 Chester (14-6), 6 p.m., CT, Dell Rapids St. Mary High School 

No. 2 Colman-Egan (18-2) vs. No. 7 Bridgewater-Emery (6-14), 7 p.m., CT, Colman-Egan Area School

No. 3 Sanborn Central-Woonsocket (17-3) vs. No. 6 Howard (6-14), 7 p.m., CT, Sanborn Central High School 


Region 4B

No. 1 overall seed Centerville is one of two remaining undefeated teams still standing in Class B girls basketball. The Tornadoes, who won last season’s state championship, are riding a 32-game winning streak.

Centerville is the region’s No. 1 seed and will face Alcester-Hudson or Irene-Wakonda on Feb. 25. The Tornadoes defeated Alcester-Hudson (71-38) and Irene-Wakonda (53-33) during the regular season. 

The region features six total teams with 12 wins or more, including No. 2 seed Parkston. The Trojans, who dropped down from Class A this season, will play Tripp-Delmont/Armour or Freeman Academy/Marion on Feb. 25. Parkston defeated TDA (47-25) during the regular season, but did not play FAM. 

Viborg-Hurley is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Avon. The Cougars clipped the Pirates (52-46) on Jan. 21. No. 4 Freeman will play No. 5 Gayville-Volin in another rematch of a tight regular-season contest. The Flyers defeated the Raiders (53-51) on Feb. 20. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 Alcester-Hudson (5-15) vs No. 9 Irene-Wakonda (5-15), 7 p.m., CT, Alcester-Hudson School District

No. 7 Tripp-Delmont/Armour (8-12) vs. No. 10 Freeman Academy-Marion (3-16), 7 p.m., CT, Tripp-Delmont School District 

Feb. 25

No. 1 Centerville (20-0) vs. No. 8 Alcester-Hudson or No. 9 Irene-Wakonda, 7 p.m., CT, Centerville

Region 5B

Lyman earned the region’s No. 1 seed after a 16-3 regular-season record. The Raiders’ three losses were against non-Region 5B teams, Parkston, Vermillion and Sioux Falls Christian. 

Lyman, which qualified for last season’s state tourney, is the No. 3 overall seed in Class B girls basketball. 

The Raiders will play Kimball/White Lake or Colome on Feb. 25. Lyman did not play either KWL or Colome during the regular season. Kimball/White Lake defeated Colome (50-23) during the regular season.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian is the No. 2 seed and will play Lower Brule on Feb. 25. ACDC has played a tough schedule during the regular season, including a 49-48 win over Ethan on Dec. 17. The Thunder have lost to formidable foes Dell Rapids St. Mary, Centerville (twice), Avon and Wagner during the regular season. 

The Thunder and Sioux did not play during the regular season. 

No. 3 Corsica-Stickney will play No. 6 Gregory and No. 4 Burke will play No. 5 Marty in the other first-round contests. It will be the first meetings this season for each respective matchup.  

Feb. 24 

No. 8 Kimball/White Lake (6-14) vs. No. 9 Colome (1-18), 5:30 p.m., CT, Kimball High School

Feb. 25 

No. 1 Lyman (16-3) vs. No. 8 Kimball-White Lake or No. 9 Colome, 7 p.m., CT, Presho 

No. 4 Burke (12-8) vs. No. 5 Marty (10-10), 7 p.m., CT, Burke

No. 2 Andes Central/Dakota Christian (15-5) vs. No. 7 Lower Brule (9-11), 7 p.m., CT, Dakota Christian School 

No. 3 Corsica-Stickney (13-6) vs. No. 6 Gregory (6-14), 7 p.m., CT, Corsica-Stickney High School

Region 6B

Highmore-Harrold edged Tiospaye Topa for Region 6B’s No. 1 seed, finishing .438 points ahead of the Thunderhawks. 

Highmore-Harrold has sputtered down the stretch of season, losing three of its last four games. But Pirates’ three losses were against Class A teams Aberdeen Roncalli and Miller, as well as a setback against Class B foe Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. 

The Pirates will play Potter County or Wakpala on Feb. 25. Highmore-Harrold lost to Potter County (55-50) on Dec. 19 and did not play Wakpala during the regular season. Potter County and Wakpala did not play during the regular season. 

Tiospaye Topa put together a 14-5 season, including winning the Makosica bracket at the Lakota Nation Invitational. The Thunders lost games against Region 8B contenders Harding County and McLaughlin down the stretch. 

The Thunderhawks will play Ipswich or Sunshine Bible Academy on Feb. 25. Tiospaye Topa did not play either team during the regular season. Ipswich defeated SBA (68-21) on Feb. 14. 

No. 3 Faulkton Area plays No. 6 Sully Buttes and No. 4 Herreid/Selby Area plays No. 5 North Central in the other first-round matchups. The Trojans defeated the Chargers (57-29) in the regular-season finale. 

North Central defeated HSA (51-45) on Jan. 24. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 Potter County (8-12) vs. No. 9 Wakpala (7-13), 7 p.m., CT, Gettysburg

No. 7 Ipswich (10-10) vs. No. 10 Sunshine Bible Academy (4-14), TBD

Feb. 25 

No. 1 Highmore-Harrold (14-6) vs. Potter County or Wakpala, TBD

Region 7B

Bennett County recently defeated Kadoka Area, 69-59, in its regular-season finale. It also secured Bennett County the region’s No. 1 seed. 

The Warriors, who dropped down from Class A this season, have put together an 18-2 regular-season record. Bennett County’s two losses were against Class B power Lyman (51-49) and Class A contender Dakota Valley (68-44). 

Bennett County, which is on a nine-game winning streak, will play New Underwood or Oelrichs on Feb. 25. The Warriors defeated New Underwood on Feb. 14, but did not play Oelrichs during the regular season. New Underwood and Oelrichs did not play during the regular season. 

Kadoka Area’s 17-3 season included losses against Lyman (54-49), Bennett County (69-59) and Class A Tri-Valley (42-33). The Kougars will play Jones County or Crazy Horse on Feb. 25. Kadoka Area defeated Jones County (59-40) during the regular season, but did not play Crazy Horse. 

No. 4 White River plays No. 5 Edgemont and No. 3 Wall plays No. 6 Philip in the other first-round matchups. White River and Edgemont did not play this season. Wall outlasted Philip (52-45) in their regular-season meeting. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 New Underwood (5-15) vs No. 9 Oelrichs (6-13), 6 p.m., MT, New Underwood

No. 7 Jones County (10-10) vs No. 10 Crazy Horse (1-16), 7 p.m., CT, Murdo

Feb. 25

Region 8B

Harding County joins Centerville as the last two undefeated teams in Class B girls basketball. 

The Ranchers are the No. 2 overall seed in Class B and are gunning for their second consecutive Class B state tournament appearance. The Ranchers are one of five teams in the region with 11 wins or more. 

Harding County will play Dupree or Bison on Feb. 25. Harding County did not play either team during the regular season. Dupree defeated Bison (61-18) on Jan. 2.

McLaughlin edged Lemmon for the No. 2 seed in the region, finishing 0.724 points ahead of the Cowgirls. 

McLaughlin will play McIntosh or Takini on Feb. 25. The Mustangs did not play the Tigers or Skyhawks during the regular season. McIntosh defeated Takini (58-14 and 66-16) during the regular season. 

No. 3 Lemmon will play No. 6 Newell in the first round. The Cowgirls defeated Newell (63-14) during the regular season. 

No. 4 Faith plays No. 5 Timber Lake in the first round on Feb. 25. The Panthers defeated the Longhorns (42-40) during the regular season. 

Feb. 24

No. 8 Dupree (2-16) vs. No. 9 Bison (3-15), 6 p.m., MT, Dupree
