Three high-scoring guards, two productive forwards and a towering post player headline this year’s Class B boys basketball all-state team, as selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

The all-state first team includes De Smet’s Grant Wilkinson, Wall’s Teelan Kjerstad, Sully Buttes’ Wesley Wittler, Viborg-Hurley’s Brady Schroedermeier, Castlewood’s Kamden Keszler and Freeman’s David Walter. 

Wilkinson is the Class B player of the year, after totaling the most all-state votes in the class. 

A 6-foot-10 center, Wilkinson is making his second consecutive first-team selection. A double-double machine, Wilkinson powered the Bulldogs to the consolation championship this year. 

Wilkinson averaged 24.4 points and 18.8 rebounds per game, while blocking 45 shots. He finished his career with 1,372 points and a school-record 969 rebounds. Wilkinson also holds school records for points in a season (635), rebounds in a season (433), most points in a game (46) and most rebounds in a game (27).

Kjerstad was a second-team all-state selection last season. A 6-foot-1 electric scoring guard, Kjerstad led the Eagles to a third-place finish at the state tournament, their best finish in school history. 

Kjerstad averaged 27.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and four assists per game, while totaling 96 steals. He scored 718 points this season, upping his career total to 1,560 points. Kjerstad nailed 79 3-pointers this season, and has 193 for his career.

Wittler is a repeat first-team selection. A 6-foot-1 scoring guard, Wittler averaged 22.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while adding 81 steals. The Class B Spirit of Su recipient led the Chargers to an eighth-place finish at state. He finished his career as Sully Buttes’ all-time leading scorer with more than 1,900 career points. He will play college football at NAIA Northwestern College.

Schroedermeier was a second-team all-stater last season. A 6-foot-2 forward, Schroedermeier averaged 22.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, while adding 70 steals. He led the Cougars to a seventh-place finish at state. He totaled 1,372 points, 592 rebounds, 271 assists, 237 steals and 44 blocked shots in his career. He set school records for points in a season (577), steals in a season (74) and career assists (271). 

Keszler is making his first appearance on the all-state team. Keszler led the Warriors to a runner-up finish at the state tournament. He averaged 19.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Keszler scored 500 points this season, and has 685 career points after his junior season.

Walter is making his second all-state selection, and was a third-team honoree last season. Walter is Freeman’s first first-team all-stater since Eli Hofer in 1998. A 6-foot-5 budding sophomore forward, Walter helped the Flyers win their first state championship since 1975 this year. He averaged 18.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game. Walter has totaled 1,208 points, 549 rebounds, 139 assists, 124 steals and 41 blocked shots through his sophomore season.
