Feb. 26 Girls Basketball Roundup - No. 3 Ethan edges Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in Region 3B action, advances to SoDak 16

Ethan 43, Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 36

MADISON — A second-half surge powered Class B No. 3 Ethan to a Region 3B win over Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Thursday. Ethan will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Ethan's Taziah Hawkins led with 15 points, Rachel Klock added 11 points, Marissa Storm netted eight points while Sadie Mueller added seven points in the win.

For SCW, Lainey Goertz had 10 points, Addison Bartholow had nine points while Liz Boschee and Cami Edwards each had six points in the loss.


Colman-Egan 49, Chester 32

MADISON — Three players scored in double figures to power Colman-Egan to a Region 3B girls basketball win on Thursday. Colman-Egan will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Colman-Egan’s Brynlee Landis finished with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Quinn Meyer added 13 points and five boards. Jolie Flatten had 11 points. Mya Reiff totaled six points and 13 rebounds. 

For Chester, Jacy Wolf had 20 points and five rebounds. Katelyn Schut had six points and three rebounds. 


Centerville 43, Gayville-Volin 33 

CENTERVILLE — Centerville held off Gayville-Volin for a Region 4B girls basketball win on Thursday. Centerville will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Centerville’s Peyton Hansen finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Izzie Eide recorded 11 points. Brea Austin added nine points, while Lydia Austin had six points, four rebounds and three assists. 

For GV, Aliza Westrum scored 12 points and Maia Achen had 10 points.


Deubrook Area 39, Castlewood 37

MADISON — Deubrook Area clipped Castlewood for a Region 2B girls basketball win Thursday. Deubrook Area will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

The Dolphins were led by Peyton Trooien with 12 points and six rebounds, Mataya Gouws added 11 points and six boards, while Matte Bauman netted nine points and seven rebounds in the win.

For Castlewood, Ava Ruml totaled 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, Sophia Kudrna added nine points and three assists while Bryn Schooley and Claire Horn each had five points in the loss.


Lyman 58, Burke 28

MITCHELL — Class B No. 1 Lyman coasted past Burke for a Region 5B girls basketball win on Thursday. Lyman will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Lyman’s Jordyn Scott totaled 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Bree Smart added 22 points, four assists and four steals.

For Burke, Emmie Hausmann and Brianna Davis scored six points apiece. Trystan Johnson had five points. 


Corsica-Stickney 70, Gregory 46

MITCHELL — Braylee Bordewyk powered Corsica-Stickney to a Region 5B girls basketball win on Thursday. Corsica-Stickney will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Bordewyk finished with 34 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Sophie DeLange had 12 points, while Hadynn Johnson totaled 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Remi Nelson had seven rebounds. 

For Gregory, Asia VanDerWerff totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds. Dani VanDerWerff recorded nine points. Gracie Biggins and Sophee Skalla scored eight points apiece. 


Harding County 63, Timber Lake 13

BUFFALO — Class B No. 8 Harding County coasted past Timber Lake in Region 8B girls basketball action. Harding County will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Harding County’s Macey Wendt finished with 19 points, while Kamry Padden added eight points and 10 rebounds. Sattyn Wilson recorded seven points and four rebounds. Carson Page and Maci Wammen scored six points apiece. Kaylen Padden and Brayden Padden had five points apiece.

For Timber Lake, Jaylee Schoelerman scored four points and six steals.


Parkston 58, Freeman 48

PARKSTON — Three players scored in double figures as Class B No. 4 Parkston defeated Freeman in Region 4B girls basketball action Thursday. Parkston will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Keeara Oakley led the Trojans with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Berkley Ziebart added 17 points, four rebounds and four steals, Morgan Maxwell had 14 points while Kennedy Knippling chipped in six points in the win.

For Freeman, Rylee Peters led with 24 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Cadence Hofer added 11 points while Vaida Ammann had eight points and six rebounds in the loss.


Waubay-Summit 52, Hitchcock-Tulare 44

SUMMIT — Addison Heinje powered Waubay-Summit to a Region 1B girls basketball win on Thursday. Waubay-Summit will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Heinje finished with 34 points and three 3-pointers. Brynlee Amdahl scored eight points.

For HT, Gracyn Bixler had 13 points and Cambree Hoekman scored 11 points. Emmerie Arthurs scored six points and Keilee Schone scored five points.


Ipswich 63, Herreid-Selby Area 48

SELBY — Marley Guthmiller and Gabby Wald combined for 41 points as Ipswich defeated Herreid-Selby Area in Region 6B girls basketball action Thursday.

Guthmiller totaled 23 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists while Wald added 18 points and three steals for the Tigers. Tristan Geditz netted seven points and 11 boards while Brianna Geditz tallied five points and four assists in the win.

For HSA, Jordyn Rossow had 15 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks, Katie Albee added 120 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, Taryn Hettick recorded seven points and four assists while Alyssa Kaup had six points and eight rebounds in the loss.


McCook Central-Montrose 53, Hanson 39

SALEM — Three players scored in double figures as McCook Central-Montrose defeated Hanson in Region 5A girls basketball action Thursday. MCM will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Natalie Lueth had 11 points and two steals for the Fighting Cougars, Ella DeKnikker added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals, Cami McGuire recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists while Jaida Skyberg and Mya Morrison each had six points in the win.

For Hanson, Hannah Easton led with 12 points and four rebounds, Ava Doyle added eight points, seven rebounds and four steals while Rylee Furgeson netted six points, three steals and three assists in the loss.


Wagner 65, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 34

WAGNER — Ashlyn Koupal’s double-double powered Class A No. 4 Wagner to a Region 5A girls basketball win.

Koupal finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, five blocked shots and three steals. Braxton Nedved had 16 points. Ravyn Medricky had six points and six rebounds. Mateya Bruguier and Hayden Knudsen scored five points apiece.

For MVP, Taryn Hegg had 12 points. Suri Schmidt added nine points and Madalynn Lorang scored six points. 


Sioux Valley 55, Clark/Willow Lake 32

VOLGA — Three players scored in double figures to push Class A No. 6 Sioux Valley over Class A No. 7 Clark/Willow Lake in Region 2A girls basketball action Thursday.

Kailey Cradduck led the Cossacks with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals, Liberty Trygstad added 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals, Talya Vincent recorded 12 points while Miley Keating scored five points with five boards in the win.

For CWL, Shelby Begeman had eight points and eight rebounds, Kamryn Nesheim added six points while Jenny Bevers and Brynn Roerich each had five points in the loss.


Groton Area 54, Milbank 52

GROTON — Groton Area outlasted Milbank in a double overtime Region 1A girls basketball game. Groton Area will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Groton Area’s Jaedyn Penning finished with 20 points and six rebounds. Jerica Locke added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kella Tracy had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Rylee Dunker added six points.

For Milbank, Belle Pauli had 16 points and Anna Neugebauer totaled 13 points. Violet Johnson added eight points and Bree Townsend scored seven points. Susie Schuneman had five points. 


Hamlin 55, Florence-Henry 17

HAYTI — Three players scored in double figures to pace Class A No. 2 Hamlin to a Region 2A girls basketball win on Thursday. Hamlin will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Hamlin’s Issie Steffensen and Addie Jensen scored 17 points apiece. Steffensen hit three 3-pointers. Paxton Neuendorf added 11 points.

For FH, Addison Byer scored six points. 


Lennox 68, Canton 29

LENNOX — Three players scored in double figures to pace Class A No. 3 Lennox to a Region 4A girls basketball win on Thursday. Lennox will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5.

Lennox’s Andie Peters had 14 points and three rebounds. Teagen Sturm totaled 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Libby Kranz had 10 points and six boards. 

For Canton, Jordan Rhead had six points and three rebounds. Gracie Turbes added six points. Mya Anderson totaled five points and four rebounds.


Rapid City Christian 54, Belle Fourche 19

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Christian coasted past Belle Fourche for a Region 8B girls basketball win on Thursday. Rapid City Christian will play in the SoDak 16 on March 5. 

Rapid City Christian’s Sadie Marshall scored 19 points and Brynn Casey added nine points.

Belle Fourche stats were not reported. 


Harrisburg 49, Watertown 26 

HARRISBURG — Claire McCallum and Allie Flanagan powered Harrisburg to a girls basketball win on Thursday.

McCallum had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Flanagan added 10 points.

For Watertown, Jordan Remmers had 10 points.
