Football Games to Watch - Brandon Valley plays at Sioux Falls Lincoln in Class 11AAA showdown

Brandon Valley at Sioux Falls Lincoln 

SIOUX FALLS — Two of the three undefeated Class 11AAA teams will face off Friday at Howard Wood Field. 

Class 11AAA No. 3 Brandon Valley (5-0) will host Class 11AAA No. 2 Sioux Falls Lincoln (5-0) in a highly-anticipated top-five matchup.

The two teams have separated themselves atop the Class 11AAA rankings, and the outcome will loom in the playoff picture.

Brandon Valley is coming off a 49-0 win over Rapid City Central, while it has also defeated Washington (20-7), Rapid City Stevens (41-7), O’Gorman (27-0) and Roosevelt (46-7). 

Lincoln, which is riding a 17-game winning streak, picked up a 47-28 victory over Washington last week. The Patriots have also defeated Stevens (55-7), O’Gorman (36-19), Roosevelt (60-14) and Jefferson (28-16). 

Sioux Falls Lincoln owns a four-game winning streak in the series, including victories in each of the past two postseasons. 


Spearfish at Watertown

WATERTOWN — There’s a logjam of 4-1 teams in Class 11AA, and two of them will play on Friday in Watertown.

Class 11AA No. 5 Spearfish (4-1) will play at Class 11AA No. 1 Watertown (4-1) in a top-five matchup. 

The Arrows have risen to the top of the Class 11AA poll, with wins over Yankton (27-13), Pierre (28-14), Mitchell (47-14) and Douglas (54-0). Watertown began the season with a 38-7 setback against Class 11AAA Jefferson. 

Spearfish, which finished 4-6 last season, has equaled last season’s win total with victories over Tea Area (39-29), Rapid City Central (26-22), Mitchell (43-0) and Huron (14-7). 

Watertown won last season’s meeting over Spearfish, 42-7.


Winner at Mount Vernon/Plankinton 

MOUNT VERNON — Winner will take on another ranked Class 11B challenger this week.

Class 11B No. 1 Winner (5-0) will play at Class 11B No. 5 Mount Vernon/Plankinton (4-1) in a top-five contest. For Winner, it will be its fifth game against a ranked Class 11B team within the past six weeks. 

The Warriors previously defeated then-top five teams Hot Springs (36-0), Wagner (24-6), Elk Point-Jefferson (18-8) and Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central (30-18). Winner has also defeated Miller/Highmore-Harrold (58-7) this season. 

Mount Vernon/Plankinton is coming off a 53-14 victory over Chamberlain. The Titans also defeated McCook Central/Montrose (42-16), St. Thomas More (36-30) and Wagner (36-6). MVP’s lone defeat was against Elk Point/Jefferson, a 36-33 setback. 

Winner has won five straight over MVP, including last year’s 50-0 decision. 


Avon at Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian

ARMOUR — Class 9B power Avon put its undefeated record up against up-and-coming Class 9AA foe Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Friday. 

Class 9B No. 1 Avon (5-0) will play at Class 9AA No. 5 Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian (5-0) as the Pirates look to keep their perfect record intact. 

Avon has cruised to an unblemished record with wins over Colman-Egan (60-38), Sioux Falls Lutheran (58-8), Burke (60-7), Corsica-Stickney (54-20) and Colome (72-6). 

TDAACDC has turned heads this season, rising up the Class 9AA ranks and is one of five remaining undefeated teams left in the class. 

The Thunderhawks have picked up wins over Bon Homme (26-12), Gregory (45-22), Corsica-Stickney (46-12), Scotland-Menno (64-14) and Burke (66-7). 


Dell Rapids at West Central 

HARTFORD — Two familiar Class 11A foes will meet up in Hartford.

Class 11A No. 3 Dell Rapids (4-1) will play at Class 11A No. 5 West Central (3-2) in a rematch of the last two Class 11A state championships, with the Quarriers winning the past two titles. 

Dell Rapids began the 2024 campaign with a 22-14 loss against Dakota Valley, but have since rattled off wins over Madison (30-13), Rapid City Christian (40-24), Milbank (42-7) and Tri-Valley (44-6). 

West Central lost to current Class 11A No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian, 42-13, in the opener. The Trojans have since gone 3-1, including wins over Belle Fourche (56-15), McCook Central/Montrose (55-7) and Canton (48-14). West Central also dropped a 40-28 decision against Lennox. 


Brookings at Tea Area

TEA — Two 4-1 Class 11AA teams will face off Friday in Tea. 

Class 11AA No. 2 Brookings (4-1) will play at Class 11AA No. 4 Tea Area (4-1) in a key matchup in the Class 11AA ranks. 

Brookings is coming off a tight 26-21 loss against Class 11AA Sioux Falls Roosevelt. However, the Bobcats began the season with victories over Sturgis (31-0), Mitchell (34-0), Aberdeen Central (8-7) and Pierre (13-0).

The Titans, meanwhile, are on a four-game winning streak after starting with a 39-29 loss against Spearfish. Tea Area has defeated Aberdeen Central (39-7), Huron (41-14), Douglas (58-3) and Mitchell (54-0) since the early-season defeat.
