High school football roundup - Warriors win slugfest over Titans

Winner 28, Mt. Vernon-Plankinton 8

Winner held off Mount Vernon/Plankinton in an SESD contest on Friday.  

The Warriors managed 241 yards of Offense, grinding out 221 yards on the ground and another 20 through the air. Kaden Keiser led the team on the ground with 85 yards on 10 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run to break the game open. Riley Orel and Aiden Barfuss contributed another 70 yards and 42 respectively. Joey Cole pumped out a 18-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Bartels. Defensively, Charley Pravacek led the Warriors with 8.5 tackles.

The Titans narrowed the game just before halftime on a Reed Rus to Jordan Stoltz 17-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-8. Rus led the Titans with 70 yards of offense on four completions. Defensively, Lincoln Klooz had 8.5 tackles, Rus garnered another 6.5 tackles and Charlie Prien had five solo tackles.


Avon 48, Dell Rapids St Mary 14

The Pirates cranked out 403 yards of offense led by Brady Bierema’s 150 yard night with two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Riley Rucktaeschel was 3 of 6 passing and collected another 87 yards on the ground. Jaden Stahl and Landon Mudder contributed another 64 and 63 yards rushing respectively for the Pirates.

The Cardinals were limited to 164 yards offensively. C.J. Smith had 89 yards through the air and another 42 yards on the ground.

 

Lyman 44, Sully Buttes 6

Colton Collins erupted for 247 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Lyman topped Sully Buttes on Friday.

Lyman's Teagan Gourneau added 79 passing yards, 52 rushing yards, 26 receiving yards, an interception on defense and scored two total touchdowns. Sam McClanahan threw a touchdown for Lyman, which racked up 422 total yards. 

For Sully Buttes, Jordan Schall had 94 rushing yards on 11 carries and had a touchdown. Landon Hepker had 20 passing yards for Sully Buttes, which had 138 total yards.


Gregory 34, Burke 6

Rylan Peck had over 300 yards of total offense in the Gorilla victory. Peck was 7 of 11 passing for 171 yards and three touchdowns and he logged another 132 yards on 11 carries and another touchdown. Owen Hansen collected three grabs for 85 and two touchdowns. The Gorilla defense was stingy, only allowing 148 yards of total offense by the Cougars.

Ben Witt led the way for the Cougars, passing 13 times and completing nine of those passes for 82 yards and a Touchdown. Bryce Frank found five receptions for 77 yards and paydirt once.


Deuel 3, Mobridge-Pollock 0

In a defensive slugfest the Cardinals collected a field goal in the second quarter and made it hold up for the win. Deuel was limited to 61 yards of offense by the Tigers, who only managed 80 yards of offense themselves.

Trey Maaland completed five passes for 80 and was picked off twice for the Cardinals. Cooper Schienbeck caught every completion thrown.

For the Tigers, Holden Eisemann was 16 of 24 for 56 yards. Aiden Schoenhard led the Tigers defensively with eight tackles.


Faulkton Area 44, Northwestern 7

The Trojans jumped to a 36-0 halftime lead and led 44-0 before the Wildcats found the end zone.

Parker Geditz completed six of his eight passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns for the Trojans and his main target was Hunter Niederbaumer, who hauled in an 82-yard touchdown grab. Garrett Cramer produced 98 yards on six carries, while finding the end zone twice.

Fatahehi Faonelua completed five passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. Christopher Toennies received four passes for 75 yards.


Howard 59, Canistota-Freeman 29

Ty Beyer and John Callies each ran for over a 100 yards to help lead Howard to a 59-29 win over Canistota-Freeman on Friday night. 

Beyer led the Tigers on the ground with 163 yards on 13 carries while Callies had 130 yards on 21 carries. Beyer ran for three touchdowns while Callies added two scores. 

Taiden Hoyer was 5 of 8 passing for 111 yards and one touchdown. 

Tage Ortman led Canistota-Freeman with 272 passing yards -- completing 17 of 26 passes and threw four touchdowns. 

Howard led 33-6 at halftime and 47-20 at the end of the third quarter. 


Elk Point-Jefferson 55, Flandreau 6 

Elk Point Jefferson racked up 542 total yards in a 55-6 win over Flandreau on Friday night. 

Noah McDermott led Elk Point-Jefferson with 174 passing yards. He completed 5 of 6 passes and threw for two touchdowns. 

Devon Schmitz added 118 yards on the ground on three carries and scored a touchdown while Lucas Husser added 100 yards rushing on two carries and one score. 

Devon Schmitz led the Elk Point receivers with 118 yards on three receptions while catching two touchdowns. 

Tanner Christenson led Flandreau with 131 passing yards -- completing 8 of 20 attempts and threw two interceptions. 


Sioux Valley 60, Baltic 6 

Parker Puetz threw for 252 yards, completing 11 of 18 passes to lead Sioux Valley to a 60-6 win over Baltic on Friday night. 

Broden Schiller led the Sioux Valley receivers catching six passes for 115 yards. McKade Rentsch added 112 yards on the ground on nine carries. 

James Leffring led Balitc with 100 yards passing. 


Lennox 33, Custer 14 

Jackson Arit led Lennox with 155 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-14 win over Custer on Friday night. 

Braeden Wulf added 149 yards passing, completing 8 of 18 passes including a touchdown pass to Steven Christion. 

Christion ended the night with 74 receiving yards on five catches. 

 

Herreid-Selby Area 38, Timber Lake 28

The Wolverines were able to outpace the Panthers for a 10-point victory on Friday night.

HSA compiled 421 total yards, while limiting the Panthers to 213. Both teams did most of their damage on the ground with the Wolverines racking up 312 yards and the Panthers cranked out 168.

Trey Sayler was the workhorse with 23 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Brenden Begeman hit six of his eight passes for 109 yards through the air. Tray Hettick caught four passes for 54 yards and ground out another 68 rushing.  Trevor Sayler had 10.5 tackles and an interception for Herreid-Selby Area.

The Panthers were methodical on the ground with Hank Kraft grinding out 76 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns, and Jayce Lawrence tacking on another 39 yards on five carries. Thane Keller hit a home run with one carry for 66 yards and a touchdown. Lawrence wrapped up 14 tackles in the evening.


Chester 38, Viborg-Hurley 0 

Chester quarterback Stratton Eppard threw for 223 yards including three touchdown passes in a 38-0 win over Viborg-Hurley Friday night. 

Eppard added 167 yards on the ground on 17 carries including two rushing touchdowns. Ryan Benson had three catches for 91 yards including two touchdown catches. 

Chance Schollerman led Viborg-Hurley with 53 yards on 13 carries. Chester led 24-0 at halftime and 38-0 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 26, Miller-Highmore/Harrold 0

Blake Larson scored three total touchdowns as Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central blanked Miller-Highmore/Harrold on Friday.

Larson threw two touchdown passes, while running another score. He posted 104 passing yards, while Clay Olinger rushed for 124 yards on 24 carries and had a rushing score. Mason Schelske and Hayden Beigh hauled in touchdown receptions. The Blackhawks racked up 302 total yards.

The Rustlers were held to 130 total yards. Trey Knox had 62 passing yards and Colby Kolda had 53 rushing yards. 

 

Potter County 12, Warner 7

Potter County scored two touchdowns in the first quarter as it edged Warner on Friday.

Grant Luikens threw an 83-yard touchdown reception to Drake Bassett, while Luikens rushed for a 13-yard score in the first quarter. Luikens finished with 156 passing yards and 38 rushing yards. Cooper Logan had 47 rushing yards on 13 carries, while Bassett had 95 receiving yards.

For Warner, Hunter Cramer had 15 passin gyards and Zachary Wood added 87 rushing yards. Wood had Warner's lone touchdown in the second quarter.


Tea 52, Sturgis 0

The Titans exploded for 44 first half points en route to a 52-point victory over the Scoopers. The Titans exploded for 495 yards of total offense; 449 rushing yards and another 46 through the air. Tea’s defense was equally impressive, only surrendering 99 total yards.

Jaxon Weber and Chase Van Tol both eclipsed the century mark with 164 yards and 104 yards.


Groton Area 37, Webster Area 6 

Jordan Bjerke caught seven passes for 125 yards and one touchdown to help lead Groton to a 37-6 win over Webster on Friday night. 

Favian Sanchez had four catches for 35 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Kaden Kurtz completed 17 of 24 passes and finished the night with three touchdowns. 

Jaydon Keller led Webster with 136 yards on 21 carries. He added a touchdown. Groton led 21-0 at halftime and 27-0 at the end of the third quarter. 


DeSmet 40, Deubrook Area 0

Colt Wilkinson led the way for the Bulldogs. He was a perfect 5 of 5 for 49 yards passing with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kalen Garry. Rett Osthus contributed a 77-yard kick return and 15-yard interception return for touchdowns in the victory.


Madison 46, Dakota Valley 13 

Nate Ricke three for three touchdowns to lead Madison to a 46-13 win over Dakota Valley on Friday night. 

Ricke completed 9 of 14 passing attempts for 186 yards. Kadin Hanscom added 98 yards on nine carries and one touchdown. 

Ethan Anema led Dakota Valley with 154 yards passing, completing 11 of 21 passing attempts and throwing for one touchdown. 

Madison led 26-7 at halftime and 40-7 at the end of the third quarter. 


North Central 50, Waverly-South Shore 0

The Thunder were explosive and opportunistic in their victory. North Central opened the game with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Colton Mohr to Raynor Sprague and never looked back. Tanner Frickson had a 45-yard touchdown run and returned a fumble 35 yards for a score. PAshton Hartling ran back a kickoff from 68 yards out. The game ended at halftime due to the mercy rule.

 

Canton 21, Tri-Valley 16

The C-Hawks held on to defeat the Mustangs on Friday night by a 21-16 score. Canton produced 332 yards of Offense, led by Payton Eben’s 133 yards on 14 carries. Luke Richardson chipped in 102 yards over 17 rushes.  Josh Merkle was nearly perfect in the balanced C-Hawk attack with 10 completions in 11 attempts for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Jaden Siemonsma scored twice in his 56 yards rushing and caught a pair of passes for 37 yards. Isaac McFarland had a 17-yard touchdown on 12 carries for 51 yards.


[Thursday’s Game]


Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 44, Corsica-Stickney 8

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland racked up 361 total yards en route to a Thursday high school win over Corsica-Stickney.

Will Matson threw for 149 yards and two passing touchdowns, while rushing for 84 yards and two more scores. Isaac Trygstad hauled in a touchdown reception and intercepted a pass on defense. Orion Albertson and Caleb Jaton both had rushing touchdowns. ORR’s Kaydn Gehrels picked off two passes and Albertson logged a team-high nine tackles. 

Carter Wright had Corsica-Stickney’s lone touchdown and finished with 70 rushing yards. Tye Hosman finished with 88 rushing yards, while Tyson Wentland threw for 58 yards. Defensively, Taven Burke had 5.5 tackles, while Shad Bosma and Wright had interceptions.
