At this season’s Lakota Nation Invitational, the Lakota Tech girls suffered their only defeat, a 72-65 overtime loss to Red Cloud. On Monday, the Tatanka got a measure of revenge, defeating the Crusaders, 77-60. 

Shaylia Bravo (15) and Tobi Carlow (13) did most of the damage but Laura Big Crow’s squad got contributions from just about everyone. Lakota Tech cranked out 42 first-half points and led by 10 at intermission. 

Allison Richards led Red Cloud with 20 points. 

Lakota Tech takes on Class AA Pierre on Tuesday in Pierre. 


Groton boys undefeated out of Region 1A

One of the surprises coming out of Region 1A this season is the performance of the Groton boys. The Tigers defeated Webster 64-38 Monday night to improve to 6-0 on the season. A big region game looms Thursday as the Tigers travel to rival Aberdeen Roncalli. 


Sioux Falls O’Gorman boys use late surge to topple Sioux Falls Washington

Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman got a scare from unranked Sioux Falls Washington Monday night. Washington took a 4th-quarter lead on a Mikele Kambalo shot. Seconds later Rush Landry hit a 3-pointer and the Knights never looked back on their way to a 62-51 win. Landry led O’Gorman with 16 points and seven rebounds. David Alpers finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Kambalo had 14 points for the Warriors, followed by Joe Uttecht with 13 and Mandalla Mohamed with 12.


O’Gorman girls knock off top ranked Sioux Falls Washington

In a battle of the top ranked teams in AA girls basketball, Sioux Falls O’Gorman handed top-ranked Washington its first loss of the season, a 61-52 decision at Washington’s home gym. Hannah Ronsiek led O’Gorman with 20 points. These two squads will face off again on Feb. 11 at O’Gorman high school.
