Ipswich girls, Philip boys still lead Class B standings after Day 2 of state track

SIOUX FALLS — The Ipswich girls and Philip boys continue to lead the Class B standings through two days of the South Dakota state track and field championships.

The Ipswich girls lead with 27 points, ahead of Kimball/White Lake (25) and Northwestern (23). The Philip boys have pushed their total to 53.5 points, ahead of Gregory (25) and Mitchell Christian (21).

Ipswich’s score was boosted by a third-place finish from Madisyn Gellhaus in the 3,200-meter run, adding six points for the Tigers.

For Philip, Evan Kroetch gave the Scotties eight points by finishing second in the boys shot put event (50-00). Ridge Furnival added 0.5 points placing eight place in the boys pole vault (11-09). Jack Peterson and Baylor Burns added a combined nine points in the 3,200-meter run. Peterson finished in fourth place (9:54.29) while Burns took home fifth (9:57.95). Trey Larson and Burns placed in the boys 800-meter run to combine for eight more points. Larson placed fourth (2:00.76) while Burns took sixth place (2:01.49).
