Meet and state records fall during Day 1 of 100th annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays

SIOUX FALLS — There was no shortage of records broken during Day 1 of the 100th annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays. 

From meet records to state records, track and field fans watched as a handful of records fell at Howard Wood Stadium.  


Five Howard Wood Dakota Relays meet records fall on Day 1 

The Sioux Falls Christian girls quartet of Anna Vyn, Jerica Glasser, Sadie Pettengill and Ellie Maddox set the Class A meet record in the 3,200-meter relay (9:10.26). The previous record was set by Sioux Falls Christian in 2023 at 9:20.53. 

The Colman-Egan girls quartet of Crystal Silva-Dominguez, Finley Luze, Brynlee Landis and Jolie Flatten set the Class B meet record in the 800-meter relay (1:46.65). The previous record was set by Colman-Egan in 2023 at 1:47.32. 

The Brandon Valley girls quartet of Emma Tidemann, Kyra Weiss, Addison Scholten and Sarah VanDeBerg set the meet record in the distance medley relay (12:25.85). The previous record was set by Sioux Falls Christian in 2023 at 12:28.44.

O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli set a meet record in the girls 3,200-meter run (10:11.66). Castelli broke the previous record set by Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Allison Eckert (10:19.74). 

Castelli’s time is also the second best time in state history, behind O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie (10:10. 83) in 2022.

Velva-Drake/Anamoose, North Dakota’s Anya Olson set a meet record in the girls 100-meter dash (:11.67). Olson broke the previous record set by Chanhassen, Minnesota’s Jedah Caldwell (:11.71). 


Lincoln quartet breaks all-time 800-meter relay record 

The Sioux Falls Lincoln boys quartet of Mikey Roche, Ben Burchett, Evan Abild and Griffin Fischer set the state’s all-time record in the 800-meter relay.

The Patriot boys clocked in with a time of 1:27.06, breaking the previous record set by Sioux Falls Christian (1:27.42) in 2023. 


North Dakotans win special events 

A pair of North Dakota athletes won this year’s special event races at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. 

Bowman County’s Tanner Wanner won the Special Event 800-meter run in 1:52.64. Rapid City Stevens’ Miles Brekhus was South Dakota’s best finisher, placing in fourth place at 1:56.49. 

Velva-Drake/Anamoose, North Dakota’s Anya Olson won the Special Event 200-meter run in :23.94 seconds, edging Bennett County freshman Reagan O’Neill (:24.10). O’Neill’s time broke Rapid City Central’s Jasmyne King’s all-time record of :24.16 in 2008.
