SIOUX FALLS — Championship Saturday did not go as well as expected for the Pierre girls but when Abbigail Lewis (152) edged Lead/Deadwood’s Trinity Zopp in the finals the Governor girls had done just enough.

Pierre scored 139 points, ahead of Canton (138.5) and Harrisburg (102.5). Aberdeen Central (86) and Lakota Tech (81) to round out the top-five teams. 

Lewis capped off a 41-0 season and was the only Pierre athlete to win an individual title. A girls team championship has only been contested each of the last three years with Pierre winning each year. 

Canton did everything in their power Saturday. The C-Hawks got pins from Kiara King (250) and Finley Evjen (107) in their championship matches to close within a half point. 

Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon had a pair of individual championships from Britney Rueb (120) and Peyton Hellmann (138). Hellmann became the first female athlete in South Dakota to win four state titles. Rueb picked up her third state title Saturday after winning championships in 2022 and 2023. 

Harrisburg’s Regina Stoeser (126) defeated Ipswich/Bowdle seventh grader for her third state title.
