The 2025 Howard Wood Special Event 800-meter run for boys features three South Dakota runners, along with athletes from North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. 

Rapid City Stevens senior Miles Brekhus has the top time amongst South Dakota athletes (1:55.70). Also set to compete from South Dakota are Hill City’s Tate Grabow (1:56.16) and Sioux Falls Christian’s Bennett Wassenaar (1:56.86).

Other athletes competing are Taylor Wanner (Bowman, N.D.), Dawson Balzer (Bismarck, N.D.), Henry Risser (Hopkins, Minn.), Tommy Rice (Omaha, Neb.) and Evan Esler (Milford, Iowa). The alternate for Friday’s race is Benjamin Harris (Minot, N.D.).
