Sanford Sports Academy 17U girls team wins Nike Tournament of Champions title
The Sanford Sports Academy 17U Black girls basketball team won the Nike Tournament of Champions League title on Monday.

CHICAGO — The Sanford Sports Academy 17U Black girls basketball team won the Nike Tournament of Champions League title on Monday. 

Sanford Sports Academy cruised past Georgia-based Southeast All Stars, 97-64, in the title game broadcasted live on ESPNU. Tea Area’s Katie Vasecka powered Sanford Sports Academy with 34 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the championship game. Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Emilee Fox added 21 points in the win. 

Vasecka and Fox will play basketball at South Dakota State University, along with Sanford Sports Academy 17U Black teammates Mahli Abdouch (Sioux Falls O’Gorman) and Claire Sheppard (Flandreau). 

The rest of the team includes Macy Koupal (Wagner), Dani Highum (Lennox), Brooklyn Stanley (Bishop Heelan, Iowa) and Alex Flattery (Sioux City East, Iowa). 

Sanford Sports Academy also defeated teams from Maryland, Oregon, Washington and Virginia.
