Sept. 17 Cross-Country Roundup - Potter County girls, Ipswich boys earn team titles at Saturday's Battler Invitational

GETTYSBURG — The Potter County girls and Ipswich boys captured team titles at Saturday’s Battler Invitational. 

The Potter County girls finished with six points, while Ipswich (21) and North Central (30) rounded out the team standings. The Ipswich girls recorded 12 points, finishing ahead of Highmore-Harrold (21) and Faulkton Area (24). 

Individually, Potter County’s Nicholas Schlachter won the boys 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes and :51.80 seconds at the Gettysburg Country Club. Highmore-Harrold’s Dylan Wald (17:16.53) finished second. Ipswich’s Dylan Wald (17:23.19), Xavier Kadlec (17:28.29) and Turner Thorson (17:36.45) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis won the girls 5,000-meter race in 19:05.72, finishing ahead of a trio of Battlers. Potter County’s Dannika Kaup (19:42.51), Jadyn Ahlemeier (19:46.84) and Emma Schlachter (19:53.68) finished second-through-fourth, respectively. Ipswich’s Madisyn Gellhaus (20:01.73) rounded out the top five. 


Hill City sweeps team titles at Lyman invitational 

PRESHO — The Hill City cross-country teams captured team titles at Saturday’s Lyman Invitational. 

The Hill City boys finished with six points, while Philip (21) and Winner (35) rounded out the top-three teams. The Hill City girls won the team title with 10 points, finishing ahead of Wall (20) and Jones County (24). 

Individually, the Rangers had the top-four runners in the boys 5,000-meter run. Luke Rupert captured the boys race in 16 minutes and :27.49 seconds at Medicine Creek Golf Course. Hill City’s Leighton Aves (17:04.65), Tate Grabow (17:11.78) and Brandon Escalante (17:28.81) finished second-through-fourth, respectively. Winner’s Joseph Laprath (17:32.82) rounded out the top five. 

Jones County’s Jolie Dugan (20:15.81) won the girls 5,000-meter race. Hill City’s Aspen Veneklasen (20:39.52) and Brooke Thayer-Burke (21:34.01) finished second and third, respectively. Wall’s Alexis Stephen (21:36.93) and Hill City’s Jaelyn Peters (21:41.94) rounded out the top-five runners. 


Pierre’s Jared Lutmer, Lincoln’s Ali Bainbridge win Huron races 

HURON — Pierre’s Jared Lutmer and Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Ali Bainbridge won individual titles at Saturday’s Clyde Cotton Invitational. 

Lutmer won the 5,000-meter boys race in 16 minutes and :23.22 seconds at Broadland Creek Golf Course. Custer’s Gage Grohs (16:34.02) and Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Jack Castelli (16:42.04) placed second and third, respectively. Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Eli Johnson (16:46.57) and Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters (16:49.69) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Bainbridge covered the 5,000-meter distance in 17:45.38 to win the girls race. O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli (18:06.00) and Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten (18:31.60) finished second and third, respectively. O’Gorman’s Ruth Pardy (18:40.66) and Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest (18:44.67) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

In the team standings, Sioux Falls Lincoln won the boys team title with 73 points. Rapid City Central (90) and Brandon Valley (123) finished second and third, respectively. 

Sioux Falls Christian won the girls team title with 50 points, finishing ahead of Spearfish (63) and Brandon Valley (81).
