One of the great stories out of the Class 9B football ranks this season is Tom Culver's Avon Pirates. The guys looked good in a season-opening win over Corsica-Stickney, 56-22. After a bye week, Avon solidified itself as one of the best teams in 9B with a 48-14 win over Dell Rapid's St. Mary's. 

Wanted to give some love to Avon assistant coach Mark Mudder. 

I visited with Avon coach and superintendent Tom Culver a few weeks back who spoke highly of their volunteer assistant coach. 

Culver has been in Avon for over 20 years and Mudder has been a volunteer assistant since before Culver started. 

Think about that for a second...

Not that many people show up if their isn't something in it for them. And yet, Mudder, who hasn't been paid just keeps showing up. 

That's awesome!

The Pirates host Alcester-Hudson this week before a good test at Burke the following week.
