Earlier this week 605 Sports did a feature story on Rapid City Stevens junior Simeon Birnbaum who has been cranking out some spectacular early season times in the distance races.
On Saturday, running at the Arcadia Invitational in California, Birnbaum took it up several notches in the mile run. Facing a field of elite national runners, Birnbaum won the race with a time of 4:07.88.

That time is the fastest mile for a South Dakota high school runner, eclipsing Jim Reinhart's 4:07.9 from 1973.

That time is currently the sixth fastest mile by a high school athlete in the country.
