Sioux Falls Cougars sign 12 South Dakotans on signing day

The University of Sioux Falls football team announced the addition of 39 student-athletes, including 12 from South Dakota on Wednesday. 

The dozen South Dakotans include Tyus Hanson (Sioux Falls Washington), James Woodward (Sioux Falls Christian), Jacob Docter (Sioux Falls Christian), Max Elrod (Harrisburg), Isaac Jarovski (Sioux Falls Lincoln), Samuel Just (Harrisburg), Trey Lewis (Pierre), Dalton Reiff (Chester), Dashawn Rohlik (Sioux Falls Jefferson), Tate Schafer (Sioux Falls Lincoln), Chance Schoellerman (Viborg-Hurley) and Trevor Wehde (Harrisburg). 

  • Tyus Hanson: Hanson joins the Cougars after playing two years as a tight end at Lindenwood University. He went to Washington High School where he played football for the Warriors. In high school, Tyus was a four-time varsity letterman, a two-time team captain, an All-State tight end in 2019, an All-Conference Tight End, Most Valuable Offensive Receiver, Sophomore pride recipient, 2020 Washington High Scholar Athlete award winner and Academic All-State winner. His junior year of high school Tyus hauled in 8 touchdowns. He finished his high school career with 893 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns, and 146 receiving yards.
  • James Woodward: Woodward returns to Sioux Falls following a year with the University of Northwestern Eagles. Woodward is a graduate of Sioux Falls Christian where he earned All-State Honorable Mention and All-Conference honors.
  • Jacob Docter: Doctor went to high school at Sioux Falls Christian where he competed in football and baseball for the Chargers. In football, he was a two-time South Dakota All-State Kicker and Dak XII Conference athlete. His highschool statistics consist of a 39% career touchback rate, 72/79 in extra points and 10/17 in field goals with a long of 40 yards.
  • Max Elrod: Elrod, a Sioux Falls native, is staying home to join USF next fall. He went to school at Harrisburg High School where he competed in football and track & field for the Tigers. He lettered in football and was awarded All-State and All-Conference honors, First Team All-South Dakota honors and was named an Elite 45 athlete. Elrod ended his high school career with 60 Tackles, 17 TFL’s, 6 sacks, 1 interception, 1 touchdown, 9 QB hits and 1 blocked pass. 
  • Isaac Jarovski: Jarovski attended Sioux Falls Lincoln High School and competed in football, basketball and track for the Patriots. In football, he was a two-time All-Metro Conference wide receiver as well as an AllState athlete and State Champion. Isaac’s high school stats consist of 159 catches 1,879 yards and 22 touchdowns. 
  • Samuel Just: Just attended Harrisburg High School where he played football for the Tigers. In football, he was awarded All-Conference and All-State Linebacker honors and was a 11AAA-Conference athlete. He finished his high school career with 126 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 16 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.
  • Trey Lewis: Lewis comes from Pierre where he competed in football, wrestling and track for the Governors. Lewis is a four-time State Champion. He is an All-ESD Linebacker and Academic All-State member as well as named a team captain for the Govs. In wrestling, Lewis was a two-time state champion, All-ESD and All-Academic athlete.Throughout his career on the gridiron, he recorded 122 carries for 985 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns along with nine receptions for 97 yards and 1 touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Lewis recorded 15 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and 4 special team touchdowns. 
  • Dalton Reiff: Reiff was a standout for the Chester Flyers. He competed in football, track and golf for the Flyers. Reiff was named a First Team All-State Defensive Lineman as well as to the Big East All-Conference and Corn Belt All-Conference teams. He recorded 138 total tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 13 sacks throughout his career. 
  • Dashawn Rohlik: Rohlik comes to the USF from Jefferson High School where he competed in football, track and powerlifting for the Cavaliers. He is a 2022 Football All-State member and State Champion while recording 49 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 1 forced fumble throughout his career
  • Tate Schafer: Schafer competed in football, basketball, baseball and track for Sioux Falls Lincoln. In football, Schafer was a two-time all-stater. He also earned the State Championship Joe Robbie Game MVP award while leading the Patriots to a 2023 State Championship. Schafer set a school record in season passing yards (3,108) yards and career passing yards (6,931) along with school and Class 11AAA records in career completions (618), career passing yards (8,102), season touchdown passes (42) and career touchdown passes (97).
  • Chance Schoellerman: Schoellerman joins USF from Viborg, where he competed in football and track for the Cougars of Viborg-Hurley High School. Schoellerman is a three-time All-Cornbelt Belt Conference Linebacker and was named the Cougars Offensive player of the Year in 2022. Throughout his career, he has recorded 171 tackles, 3 interceptions, 12 pass breakups, 7 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. On the offensive side of the ball, he recorded 889 rushing yards, 302 receiving yards and 114 passing yards. 
  • Trevor Wehde: Wehde comes from Harrisburg High School, where he competed in football and track for the Tigers. Wehde was a three-time letterman as well as an All-State Academic wide receiver. Wehde recorded 20 receptions for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Tigers.
