Sioux Falls Lincoln takes both boys and girls team championships at state track and field

SIOUX FALLS — The Sioux Falls Lincoln girls and boys teams swept the team championships at the state track and field meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

The girls team, earning its second team title in three years, finished with 97.5 points, ahead of Harrisburg (90.5) and Brandon Valley (89). The boys team, earning back-to-back track and field team titles, netted 120 points, ahead of Brandon Valley (119.5) and Rapid City Stevens (80).

Kenya Harris scored eight points for the Patriots finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.74). Harris also took first place in the 300-meter hurdles (44.13), adding 10 points for Lincoln Paislee Kool added two points with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.75). Maudelia Needles took second in girls high jump (5-03) for seven points while Finley Langenfeld collected a first place finish in the javelin throw (127-07) to add 10 points.

In relays, the quarter of Hazel Hughes, Alana Fink, Paislee Kool and Faith Kpeayah took sixth in the 400-meter relay (49.50) for three points while Kool, Kpeayah, Ivy Pudwill and Ella Termaat added six points with a third place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:42.52).

For the Lincoln boys, Josh Myers (10.74), Mikey Roche (11.00) and Griffin Fischer (35.73) earned second, fourth and eighth in the 100-meter dash to combine for 14 points. Ben Burchett took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.23) for four points and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (39.86) for an additional five points. Roche (22.01) and Javon Haukaas (22.19) took second and fifth in the 200-meter dash for 12 points. Isaac Herrboldt (50.33) and Griffin Fischer (2:03.84) combined for seven points with a third and eighth-place finish, respectively. Tyrus Needles took fifth in the 1,600-meter run (4:19.55) to give Lincoln four points.

In field events, Lincoln’s Dexter Johnson took home first in the Class AA high jump (6-06).

In relays, the Lincoln 400-meter relay (41.98) and 800-meter relay (1:27.30) teams earned All-Class gold medals, while the 1,600-meter relay team took second place as well. The 400-meter relay team includes Roche, Myers, Brody Schafer and Haukass, the 800-meter relay consists of Roche, Haukass, Schafer and Evan Abild while the 1,600-meter relay is made up of Haukass, Herrboldt, Abild and Raymion Vermeer.
