While there are still four weeks remaining in the South Dakota high-school wrestling season, the race for seeding position for the state wrestling team dual tournaments is heating up.

As we head into the final week of January Sturgis and Pierre seem to have a lock on the top-two seeds. That said, the East Vs. West Duals in Pierre last weekend suggest the state dual tournament is going to be a battle with at least five teams having legitimate chances to contend for that state title.

East vs. West Dual top team results

  • Aberdeen Central went 3-1 beating Sturgis and losing to Rapid City Stevens.

  • Rapid City Stevens went 3-1 beating Aberdeen Central but losing to Pierre

  • Pierre went 3-1 beating Rapid City Stevens but losing to Sturgis

As of Jan. 25 here are your Class A dual rankings including seeding points:

Class A

Sturgis 9-1, 46.800

Pierre, 6-1, 46.714

Rapid City Stevens, 6-2, 45.000

Aberdeen Central, 10-12, 44.167

Brandon Valley, 7-3, 43.100

Harrisburg, 10-4, 43.000

West Central, 11-2, 42.769

Watertown, 8-3, 42.901

9. Brookings, 41.833

10. Milbank, 6-4, 41.700

Brandon Valley is currently sitting as the No. 5 seed. Somehow it feels like the Lynx just haven’t had their entire lineup together and healthy all at the same time. A big opportunity for Brandon Valley on Thursday, Jan. 25 as they host No. 2 seed Pierre.

The Lynx dual Sioux Falls Washington and Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Monday with an opportunity to gain ground  on the teams ahead of them.

The Class A state wrestling team dual tournament will be held on Feb. 10 at the Dacotah Bank Center in Brookings.
