SIOUX FALLS — Sturgis holds a 27-point lead over Brandon Valley after Day 1 of the Class A state wrestling tournament. 

The Scoopers have 98 points, ahead of Brandon Valley (71) and Watertown (70.5). Aberdeen Central (54.5) and West Central (54) round out the top-five teams. 

For Sturgis, Benjamin Nadig (150 pounds), Gavin Werlinger (175), Kelson Dirk (190), Mason Hagen (138), Parker Graveman (132), Sullivan Sigman (106), Tyler Baldwin (120) and Zhoel Irion (215) are into the semifinals. 

Brandon Valley’s Anneyso Ahmed (190), Beckett Rehorst (126), Braden Shoemaker (150), Brendon Oehme (120), Elijah Schunke (285) and Levi Veskrna (175) advanced to the semifinals.
