RAPID CITY — Eight Sturgis wrestlers reached the semifinals of the Class A state wrestling tournament helping the Scoopers earn a lead after day one of the state wrestling tournament at the monument in Rapid City. 

The Scoopers scored 91.5 points, ahead of Aberdeen Central (86.5) and Watertown (55). Rapid City Stevens (48.5) and Harrisburg (43) rounded out the top five teams. 

Tyler Baldwin (113), Mason Hagen (120), Parker Graveman (132), Benjamin Nadig (138), Kalvin Ketelsen (150), Joseph Nadig (165), Zhoel Irion (175) and Kelson Dirk (190) each advanced to Friday’s semifinals. 

Aberdeen Central had a very strong first day and the Golden Eagles pushed seven athletes into Friday’s semifinals. Jackson Dargatz (106), Esten Foss (113), Ridley Waldo (144), Owen Ward (150), Mason Schrempp (157), Grayden Timm (175) and Cole Dunlavy (190) all went 2-0 on the season.
