Top Performers of the Week - Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Jack Smith sets Class 11AAA record with 5 touchdown receptions

The 2023 South Dakota high school football season resumed last week and top performances continued to roll in. 

Here are this week’s top performers across South Dakota for football games on Oct. 5-7.

  • Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Jack Smith set the Class 11AAA single-game record for touchdown receptions, hauling in five in a 55-13 win over Brandon Valley. Smith added a kickoff return for a score. 
  • Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Tate Schafer completed 21 of 31 passes for 290 yards and six touchdown passes against Brandon Valley. 

  • Dell Rapids’ Mason Stubbe rushed for 103 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns against Chamberlain. Stubbe added a punt return for a touchdown. 
  • Sturgis’ Aiden Hedderman and Carter Williams combined for 221 yards passing, completing 14 passes on 22 attempts and two touchdowns in a win over Belle Fourche.
  • De Smet’s Tom Aughenbaugh hauled in six catches for 114 yards and three touchdowns against Hitchcock-Tulare.
  • De Smet’s Britt Carlson completed 11 of 20 passes for 240 yards and threw four touchdowns against the Patriots. Carlson added two rushing touchdowns and 13 tackles on defense. 

  • Centerville’s Alec Austin completed 13 of 20 passes for 235 yards and tossed three passing touchdowns in a 50-0 win over Colome. Austin added 43 rushing yards and two more scores. 
  • Covin Wattier rushed for 112 yards on five carries and scored two rushing touchdowns against Colome. 
  • Stanley County’s Broch Zeeb passed for 250 yards and two touchdown passes in a 48-16 win over Lemmon/McIntosh. 
  • Colton Brady added 149 rushing yards and three scores for the Buffaloes.

  • Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan’s Drake Gustafson rushed for three touchdowns and threw a pair of touchdowns to Taite Klumb, powering the Seahawks to a 50-6 win over McCook Central/Montrose. 
  • Parkston’s Brayden Jervik scored three rushing touchdowns, one touchdown reception and threw two passing touchdowns against Bon Homme. 
  • Canton’s Cain Wallner erupted for 301 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Vermillion. Wallner added eight tackles and two sacks. 
  • Tea Area’s Brenner Konrad rushed for 121 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Spearfish. 
  • Rylee Veal finished with 273 rushing yards on 38 carries and scored five touchdowns in Harding County/Bison’s 48-28 win over Timber Lake.

  • Winner’s Aiden Barfuss rushed for three touchdowns and 54 yards in a 28-0 win over West Central.
  • Timber Lake’s Gracen Hansen rushed for 181 yards on 24 carries and scored three touchdowns. Hansen completed six passes for 56 yards. 
  • Herreid/Selby Area’s Houston Hauge rushed for 85 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns against Potter County. 
  • Trevor Gill hauled in five catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Battlers. 
  • Sunshine Bible Academy’s Troy Paul rushed for 216 yards on 28 carries and scored a touchdown against Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. 
  • Ipswich’s Kyle Hettich rushed for 167 yards on seven carries and scored three touchdowns against Dupree. 
  • Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Hayden Groos completed 16 of 20 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns against Sioux Falls Washington.
