WAGNER — During Saturday’s Region 3B wrestling tournament Mount Vernon Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney athlete Drew Gerlach and Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes wrestler Carter Lenz approached the scorers table for their 3rd & 4th place match.

Meet officials weren’t exactly sure what to do when both wrestlers requested to forfeit the match.

Liveticket.tv CEO Jody Brozik was calling the action Saturday and was himself perplexed when Track Wrestling didn’t know how to report the action.

“The idea behind each of them wanting to forfeit was to be on the other side of the bracket from No. 1 ranked Kaiden Keiser of Winner,” Brozik said.

Brozik said the meet officials weren’t exactly sure what to do so they called South Dakota officials. When South Dakota didn’t know what to do those meet officials followed the chain to national high-school wrestling officials.

“Ultimately those national officials said they could not find an example of two athletes trying to forfeit a match at the same time,” Brozik said.

Officially the match resulted in a Double Forfeit, and each wrestler received a loss.
