For the past few weeks Pierre and Canton have been trading the No. 1 ranking in the weekly Dakota Grappler poll.

Fueled by a dominant performance at the unofficial state dual tournament Pierre jumped back on top of the South Dakota girls rankings. The Governors received 168 points in this week’s poll, ahead of Canton (149) and Watertown (112). Harrisburg (104) and Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (73) round out the top-five teams.

Four new No. 1’s this week as Pierre’s Dani Ringstmeyer is now top ranked at 114. Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Britney Reub appears to have dropped to (120) and is now top-ranked in that weight class. After testing the waters at 145, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Peyton Hellmann dropped back to (138) where she is top ranked. Brookings junior Johanna Steinlicht is the new No. 1 at 145.

Keep an eye on a pair of seventh graders:

  • 114 - Harrisburg’s Hadley Bryant is all the way up to No. 3 in her weight class.

  • 250 - Aberdeen Central’s Nina Howard made her debut in the rankings this week and comes in as the No. 5 ranked grappler in her weight class.
