One of the top matches of the year went down at Friday’s Governor Girls Wrestling Invite in Pierre.

Harrisburg’s Regina Stoeser (19-0) handed Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Britney Rueb (12-1) her first loss of the season with a 9-4 decision. Both of these wrestlers are ranked nationally and Rueb dropped from 132 where she was top ranked to seek out the competition with Stoeser.

Stoeser has been dominant for years but the rest of the Harrisburg team seems to jump in the rankings every week. At 107, Susu Kamara is ranked No. 12. At 114, Hadley Bryant is ranked fifth. Stoeser is top ranked at 126. At 145, Sammoe Reil is ranked fourth. At 152, Emmerson Skuodas is ranked sixth and Rhiannen Hiemdal is ranked third at 165.

Big news in the team rankings as Pierre jumped back into the No. 1 ranking after winning their home tournament decisively. The Governors are projected to score 164 points (at the state meet) ahead of Canton (138) and Watertown (110). Harrisburg (99) and Aberdeen Central (76) round out the top-five teams.
