RV Howard at No. 1 Viborg-Hurley 

Class B No. 1 Viborg-Hurley faces one more test before the postseason. 

The Cougars will host Howard in a Cornbelt Conference girls basketball game on Thursday in Hurley.

Viborg-Hurley (16-3) is undefeated against Class B teams this season, with its lone losses against Class A No. 1 Hamlin, Class A No. 3 Wagner and Campbell County, Wyoming. The Cougars are No. 1 in the latest Class B poll and are currently No. 5 in the Class B seeds points standings. The Cougars are paced by 1,000-point scorers Coral Mason and Denae Mach. 

Howard (16-3) is receiving votes in the latest Class B poll and No. 7 in the current seeds points standings. The Tigers have taken losses against Dell Rapids St. Mary, De Smet and Ethan. They’re on a four-game winning streak, including a 48-35 win over Jones County at the DWU/Culver’s Classic. 

The Tigers are powered by double figure scorers in Abby Aslesen and Kate Connor. 


No. 5 Sioux Falls O’Gorman at No. 1 Sioux Falls Jefferson 

No. 1 Sioux Falls Jefferson puts its eight-game winning streak on the line against No. 5 Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Thursday.

The Cavaliers (14-2) have risen to the top of the Class AA poll and are No. 2 in the seed points standings, just behind Sioux Falls Washington. Jefferson split with Washington this season and dropped a 61-55 decision against Class A Tea Area in December. 

The Cavaliers are powered by two future college basketball players in senior Cierra Watkins (Dakota State University) and junior Jaidyn Dunn (South Dakota State University).

The Knights (13-4) are No. 5 in the latest Class AA poll and fourth in the latest seed points standings. O’Gorman has been swept by Washington, along with losses against Pierre and St. Michael-Albertville, Minnesota. 

O’Gorman is paced by junior guard Mahli Abdouch, a future South Dakota State University women’s basketball player. 


RV Florence-Henry at Sisseton 

Sisseton hosts Florence-Henry in a Class A contest between two teams jockeying for postseason positioning. 

The Falcons (15-1) are receiving votes in the latest poll and No. 5 in the latest Class A seed points standings. Florence-Henry have suffered just one defeat against Class A No. 1 Hamlin, 45-31. The Falcons are on a six-game winning streak leading into the contest against Sisseton. Florence-Henry is paced by Caylin Kelly, Reese Schmidt, Haley Hlavecek, Taylor Watson and Trinity Watson. 

Sisseton (16-2) is No. 10 in the seed points standings and holds the No. 1 spot in Region 1A. The Redmen have dropped games against Class A No. 1 Hamlin (52-43) and Class A No. 4 Sioux Falls Christian (63-54). Sisseton is paced by junior guard Hannah Leverson, a 1,000-point scorer.
