No. 4 Wagner vs. No. 1 Viborg-Hurley in Sioux Falls

Wagner plays Viborg-Hurley to cap off the Billion Auto Sacred Hoops All-Girls Classic in Sioux Falls. 

The contest features two-ranked teams with championship aspirations. 

Viborg-Hurley (11-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class B and is undefeated against South Dakota competition this season, with its lone defeat against Campbell County at the Hoop City Classic. 

Wagner (11-1) is No. 4 in Class A and has won four three straight after a 53-52 setback against Vermillion at the Hanson Classic. 

The Red Raiders feature a balanced scoring attack and their freshman guard Ashlyn Koupal is coming off 36 points and seven rebounds in a win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Jan. 24. Emma Yost and Shalayne Nagel, who are both headed to play basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University, also pace the Red Raiders’ attack. 

Viborg-Hurley is averaging 61.3 points per game and is paced by Coral Mason, Denae Mach, Estelle Lee, Charley Nelson and Shelby Lyons. 


No. 3 Sioux Falls Jefferson at No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington 

A top-five Class AA rematch highlights Thursday’s docket of girls basketball games. 

No. 3 Sioux Falls Jefferson plays at No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington in their second meeting this season. The Warriors claimed the first contest, a 46-42 win on Jan. 12 at Sioux Falls Jefferson. 

Washington (9-1) is paced by Brooklyn Harpe and Hannah Harpe.

The Cavaliers are 9-2 and their other defeat was a 61-55 loss against Tea Area. Sioux Falls Jefferson is powered by a pair of future college basketball players in senior guard Cierra Watkins (Dakota State University) and junior forward Jaidyn Dunn (South Dakota State University). 


RV Howard at RV Ethan 

Howard heads to Ethan for a Friday matchup between girls teams on the outside looking in the Class B top-five poll. 

The Tigers are 12-2 and just sits outside the top-five ranking, while the Rustlers are 8-2 and are also honorable mention in the poll. 

Howard is riding a six-game winning streak and currently sits atop the Region 3B standings. The Tigers are powered by two post players in junior Abby Aslesen and senior Kate Connor. 

Ethan is currently No. 3 in the Region 3B standings and has won eight of its past nine games. The Rustlers are paced by Ava Lingemann, Madeline Bartscher, Marissa Storm and Ella Pollreisz.
