Wolsey-Wessington girls, Wessington Springs boys win 281 Conference track and field titles

HURON — The Wessington Springs boys and Wolsey-Wessington girls won team titles at Tuesday’s 281 Conference track and field meet. 

Wessington Springs finished with 141 points, finishing ahead of Sunshine Bible Academy (135.5) and James Valley Christian (128). Wolsey-Wessington logged 185 points, finishing ahead of Hitchcock-Tulare (160) and Wessington Springs (97).

In girls action, Wolsey-Wessington’s Kendal Uttecht won the 400-meter dash (1:01.74) and 800-meter run (2:36.55). Uttecht, Abby Huntsinger, Danika Peterson and Riyli Peterson won the 800-meter relay (1:51.71). 

Wolsey-Wessington’s Tatum Luce won the pole vault (8-6) and placed second in the high jump (5-3), tying with her teammate Samara Clemente.  

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Elizabeth Boschee won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.84), the javelin (129-5) and the high jump (5-4).  

Iroquois/Lake Preston’s Hadlee Holt won the shot put (39-2) and discus (133-1).

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Emma Schneider won the long jump (16-1), the triple jump (35-7.5) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (:13.08). Schneider, Keilee Schone, Arthurs and Katelyn Schroeder won the 400-meter relay (:53.67).

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Emmerie Arthurs won the 100-meter dash (:12.81), finished second in the 200-meter dash (:28.81) and fourth in the high jump (4-11). 

Sunshine Bible Academy’s Abby Hinman won the 200-meter dash (:28.42) and finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:03.23). Tessa Hinman, Ciera Mickelson, Dakota Boersma and Abby Hinman won the 1,600-meter relay (4:17.77). 

James Valley Christian’s Hadasah Olson won the 1,600-meter run (6:14.60) and 3,200-meter run (14:26.18). JVC’s Micaiah Brantner, Rylin Wipf, MyKelti Olson and Hadasah Olson won the 3,200-meter relay (10:56.02). James Valley Christian’s Dara Olowu-Davies won the 300-meter hurdles (:55.18). 

Highmore-Harrold’s Tenley McDonnell, Emma Salathe, Whitley Baloun and Autumn Fallis won the sprint medley relay (4:31.36). 

In boys action, Wessington Springs’ Karter Mebius won the 400-meter dash (:53.22). Wessington Springs’ Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Sam Poncelow and Will Grohs won the 800-meter relay (1:38.86). Grohs, Poncelow, Richard Cardona and Mebius won the 1,600-meter relay (3:45.22).  

The Spartans also won the 3,200-meter relay, with Cardona, Carson Finn, Poncelow and Mebius finishing in 9:27.53. 

Wessington Springs’ Gaikowski, Wesley Molnar, Grohs and Ranick Fjerstad won the sprint medley relay (4:05.95). Wessington Springs’ Ryder Michalek won the high jump (6-3). 

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Logan LaBrie won the 100-meter dash (:11.06), 200-meter dash (:24.36), placed second in the long jump (19-0.25) and finished second in the triple jump (37-7.5).

Sunshine Bible Academy’s Jimmy Burma won the 800-meter run (2:12.36) and placed third in the 1,600-meter run (5:15.03). SBA’s Tarrence Mickelson won the triple jump (38-9). 

James Valley Christian’s Kaden Ober captured first-place finishes in the 1,600-meter run (5:02.30) and the 3,200-meter run (11:17.98), to go along with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:15.41). 

James Valley Christian’s Tayne Herrmann won the 110-meter hurdles (:16.57), finished fourth in the triple jump (37-5), placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (:47.78) and fifth in the javelin (124-1). 

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Payton Chasing Hawk won the 300-meter hurdles (:43.71), finished second in the high jump (5-11), placed third in the 100-meter dash (:11.62) and placed third in the 200-meter dash (:25.13). Hitchcock-Tulare’s Neil Salmen won the javelin (143-3). 

Wolsey-Wessington’s Cooper Timm, Keaton Zomer, Lucas Bureau and Wyatt Koester won the 400-meter relay (:47.81). Wolsey-Wessington’s Colin Hughes was a double winner in the shot put (42-6) and discus (137-5). Wolsey-Wessington’s Carson Walters won the pole vault (10-3) and finished third in the triple jump (37-6.5). 

James Valley Christian’s Isaac Wipf won the long jump (19-9.5). Wipf also finished second in the 100-meter dash (:11.27) and 200-meter dash (:24.63), while he added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (:55.04).
