ONIDA — Herreid/Selby Area’s Brenden Begeman powered the Wolverines to a boys team title at Thursday’s Yellowstone Trail Conference track and field meet.

Begeman was a triple winner in the long jump (19-09), triple jump (41-6) and shot put (48-0). He also placed second in the 100-meter dash (:11.95). 

Begeman’s point total helped the Wolverines rack up a meet-best 149 points, finishing ahead of Potter County (125) and North Central (124). The Potter County girls finished with 169 points, while Herreid/Selby Area (159) and Sully Buttes (123) rounded out the top-three teams. Mobridge-Pollock also competed in the meet, but its individual results did not count toward the team standings. 

Potter County’s Nicholas Schlachter claimed both the 1,600-meter run (4:55.89) and 3,200-meter run (10:48.76), while he finished second in the 800-meter run (2:14.53). HSA's Brayden Goehring won the pole vault (8-9), while Darion Baker won the high jump (5-0). 

The Mobridge-Pollock boys won all five relays. 

In the girls action, Potter County’s Kayden Cronin captured the high jump (4-7) and long jump (14-7.75) events. Dannika Kaup (400-meter dash), Emma Schlachter (800-meter run), Tori Crook (3,200-meter run) and Makaivry Schatz (pole vault) also won individual titles for the Battlers. 

Sully Buttes’ Stevie Wittler won the 100-meter hurdles (:17.91) and the 300-meter hurdles (:51.11), while she placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (:28.48) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (:13.67).
