Two of the participants in Friday’s Howard Wood Special 800 gave us a taste Tuesday night when Mount Vernon’s Berkeley Engelland and Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox raced at Lennox in the 800-meter run. Englelland (2:17.11) beat Maddox (2:17.76) to the tape in a glimpse of what should be a fast race Friday night. Engelland has four top-10 marks, including the best times in the 400-meter dash (:57.77) and the 800-meter run (2:17.11). 

Parker’s Lexi Even moved to the No. 1 spot in the 100-meter dash (:12.24) and Even was on Parker’s 800-meter relay that ran 1:45.91 this week to improve their best time by almost three seconds and move ahead of Sioux Falls Christian for the top ranking in that event. 

Sioux Falls Christian has top times in the 400-meter relay (:50.46), 1,600 meter relay (4:09.54), the 3,200 meter relay (9:46.13) and sprint medley (4:19.85). 

Wagner’s Emma Yost went from unranked in the discus to No. 5 with a throw of 115-10.

The Flandreau girls went from unranked in the sprint medley relay to the No. 4 time (4:29.52).

Your biggest performance of the week came from Dakota Valley pole-vaulter Sophia Atchison. The vaulter went from unranked to the top ranked vaulter in Class A with a leap of 11-6
