Jan. 18 Girls Basketball Roundup - Raylee Fagerhaug’s overtime free throws lift Wessington Springs to 281 Conference championship

Wessington Springs 40, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 38 (OT) 

HURON — Raylee Fagerhaug’s two free throws with :4.1 seconds left lifted Wessington Springs to the 281 Conference girls basketball championship on Thursday.

Carissa Scheel finished with 12 points for the Spartans. Fagerhaug added nine points and her two free throws were the only points of overtime. Alyssa Grohs added seven points, while Avery Orth had six points. Kerstynn Heim grabbed 11 boards, while Grohs had nine rebounds and six assists.

For SCW, Liz Boschee had 18 points. Kali Hofer added seven points and Jaycee Baruth scored five points. Boschee added eight rebounds and three steals. Kam Ochsner added seven rebounds. 


James Valley Christian 61, Iroquois/Lake Preston 46

HURON — James Valley Christian pulled away from Iroquois/Lake Preston for a third-place finish at the 281 Conference girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

JVC’s Kaylie Robinson finished with 22 points, while Alexa Goertz had 14 points. Addison Bartholow logged 13 points and Addyson Knight scored eight points. Robinson and Knight grabbed nine rebounds apiece. 

For Iroquois/Lake Preston, Adison Moore finished with 13 points. Kera Dubro and Becca Bich scored 11 points apiece. Hadlee Holt added seven points. 


Wolsey-Wessington 52, Highmore-Harrold 47 (OT)

HURON — Wolsey-Wessington held off Highmore-Harrold in overtime for a fifth-place finish at the 281 Conference girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

Wolsey-Wessington’s Lainey Uttecht logged 23 points and hit six 3-pointers. Shae Uttecht had 12 points, while Kendal Uttecht added eight points.

For Highmore-Harrold, Jada Baloun recorded 17 points. Addison McDonnell logged 10 points, while Autumn Fallis and Kendall Cermak had eight points apiece.


Hitchcock-Tulare 49, Sunshine Bible Academy 24

HURON — Hitchcock-Tulare picked up a seventh-place finish at the 281 Conference girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Katelyn Schroeder recorded 23 points, while Cambree Hoekman added eight points. Rebecca Huizenga had seven points and Emmerie Arthurs logged five points.

For SBA, Anna VanZee, Betra Amare and Brieanna Thieman scored five points apiece. 


Leola-Frederick Area 50, Northwestern 38 

FREDERICK — Three players scored in double figures to pace Leola-Frederick Area to a girls basketball win on Thursday.

Leola-Frederick Area’s Laura Sumption finished with 15 points, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Jillian Ellwein added 13 points, four rebounds and four 3-pointers. Sofia Losure recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Arabella Clark logged six points.

For Northwestern, Ella Boekelheide posted 11 points and six rebounds. Tara Blachford finished with 10 points. Ana Ratigan scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Josie Sparling added three points and nine rebounds. Josie Sparling had three points and nine rebounds. Ashley Haven added five rebounds. 

 

Colman-Egan 50, Elkton-Lake Benton 38 

COLMAN — Kaylee Voelker and Brynlee Landis powered Colman-Egan to a girls basketball win on Thursday.

Voelker finished with 19 points and five 3-pointers, while Landis added 17 points. Elaina Rhode added six points. 

For ELB, Tevan Erickson logged 15 points, five rebounds and four steals. Kylie Ramlo finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Sydney DeVries recorded five points and four rebounds. Andrea Renkly had five boards. 

Marshall, Minn., 58, Sioux Falls Washington 51

SIOUX FALLS — Marshall, Minnesota, handed Sioux Falls Washington a girls basketball loss on Thursday.

Washington’s Grace Peterson finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Claire Woods added 12 points, four steals, four assists and three rebounds. Dana Harpe had 10 points and four rebounds. Rylan Kennett posted six points and Isabel Carda had six boards. 


Harrisburg 53, Sioux Falls Jefferson 43

HARRISBURG — Two players scored in double-figures as Class AA No. 3 Harrisburg knocked off Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls Jefferson. 

Makinley Lawrenson led Harrisburg with 14 points while Sadie Mehrman pumped in 13 points for the Tigers. 

Jaidyn Dunn powered Sioux Falls Jefferson with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Brinley Altenburg also scored 17 points for Jefferson.
