Jan. 20 Girls Basketball Roundup - Lyman picks up win over Burke behind balanced scoring attack

Lyman 55, Burke 27

LYMAN — Three players scored in double figures as Class B No. 3 Lyman picked up a win over Burke in girls basketball action Saturday.

Skyler Volmer stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. Makaylee Scott finished with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Brooke Palmer added 12 points and five rebounds.

Stats for Burke were not reported. 


Beresford 63, Chester 55

BERESFORD — A balanced scoring attack helped Beresford hold off Chester in girls basketball action Saturday. 

Ella Merriman paced Beresford with 23 points and three rebounds. Harly Koth added 13 points, ten rebounds and an assist. Kaitlyn Selvert added 12 points for Beresford. 

Emmerson Eppard led Chester with 28 points and Jacy Wolf added 11 points. 


Groton Area 57, Great Plains Lutheran 43

GROTON — A balanced scoring attack helped Groton Area earn a win over Great Plains Lutheran in girls basketball action Saturday.

Rylee Dunker led Groton Area with 16 points. Brooklyn Hansen added 10 points while Sydney Leicht and Jaedyn Penning each added nine points.

Great Plains Lutheran was led by Olivia Holman’s 12 points. Esta Cameron added 11 points and Hallie Bauer chipped in with nine points. 



Castlewood 59, Pipestone, Minn., 57

ELKTON — Three players scored in double-figures as Castlewood slipped past Pipestone, Minnesota at the DVC Classic on Saturday. 

Presley Knecht powered Castlewood with 19 points. Natalie Akin added 13 points and Cyndi Kudma chipped in with 11 points. 

Jaydyn Kor led Pipestone with 20 points. 


Hills Beaver Creek, Minn., 46, Colman-Egan 40

ELKTON — Hills Beaver Creek Minnesota picked up a win over Colman-Egan at the DVC Classic on Saturday. 

Abbie Harris led Hills Beaver Creek with 18 points. 

Brynlee Landis led Colman-Egan with 23 points while Lanie Mousel chipped in with ten points. 


Estelline/Hendricks 45, Luverne, MN 37

ELKTON — Three players scored in double-figures as Estelline/Hendricks defeated Luverne, Minnesota at the DVC Classic in girls basketball action Saturday

Sadie Johnson, Brooke Johnson, Ayle Texley each scored 13 points for Estelline/Hendricks.

Torie Serie led Luverne with 12.


Arlington 50, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, MN 37

ELKTON — Four players reached double-figures as Arlington defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Saturday at the DVC Classic. 

Addie Steffensen powered Arlington with 16 points. Jaelyn Huntimer, Issie Steffensen and Jolyssa Steffensen each scored 10 points for Arlington. 

Leah Carter led Westbrook-Walnut Grove with 12 points. 


Flandreau 66, Parker 21

FLANDREAU — Five players reached double-figure scoring as Class A No. 4 Flandreau rolled to a win over Parker in girls basketball action Saturday. 

Claire Sheppard powered Flandreau with 16 points and seven assists. Sadie Iott added 12 s points and six rebounds and Morgan Sheppard had 12 points and four rebounds. Lilly Pavlis scored 12 points. Lilly Klein chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds. 

Paige Haase led Parker with eight points. 


Mitchell 46, Harrisburg 44

HARRISBURG — Class AA No. 4 Mitchell picked up a win over Class AA No. 3 Harrisburg in girls basketball action Saturday. Mitchell improved to 9-0 on the season. 

Allison Meyerink led Mitchell with 14 points and Sawyer Stoebner chipped in with 10 points. 

Jaylee Hofer led Harrisburg with 14 points and Abby Flanagan added 12 points. 


Huron 50, Sioux Falls Jefferson 48 (OT)

HURON — A big night from Hamtyn Heinz helped Huron earn a win over Sioux Falls Jefferson in girls basketball action Saturday. 

Heinz powered Huron with 28 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Elizabeth Heinen added eight points, two rebounds and four assists. Hylton Heinz scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven  assists. 

Brinlee Altenburg led Jefferson with 20 points. Jaidyn Dunn scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
