July 27 Class A Legion Roundup - Brookings edges Pierre on Hammrich's extra-inning walk-off hit

Brookings Post 74 6, Pierre Post 8 5 (8 innings)

RAPID CITY — Henry Hammrich’s eighth-inning walk-off single lifted Brookings to a Class A Legion baseball tournament opening win on Wednesday. Brookings plays Sioux Falls Post 15 East in the winner’s bracket on Thursday. 

Sam Hardin, who hit a lead-off single in the eighth inning, scored the game-winning run for Brookings. Justin Cofell and Parker Winghart finished with three hits apiece, while Cofell drove in two runs. Lincoln Hardin, Breck Hirrschoff, Ashton Witte and Zach Struck each had hits. Winghart struck out two batters and allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. 

Pierre scored its five runs through the first three innings. Lincoln Kienholz finished with three hits and an RBI. Jack Merkwan added two hits, while Matthew Hanson, Jett Zabel, Grayson Hunsley and Brecken Krueger each had hits. Kienholz allowed seven hits, four earned runs, one walk and struck out four batters in his five-inning start. Merkwan took the loss after allowing five hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out two batters in 2.2 relief innings. 

Pierre plays Brandon Valley Post 131 in the loser’s bracket on Thursday.

Mitchell Post 18 4, Rapid City Post 320 1

RAPID CITY — Mitchell’s Jake Helleloid kept Rapid City Post 320’s bats at bay in the Class A Legion baseball tourney opener on Wednesday. Mitchell plays Rapid City Post 22 in the winner's bracket on Thursday. 

Helleloid allowed three hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out four batters in his 6.2-inning start. He added two hits and scored a run on offense. 

Dylan Soulek logged two hits, while Seth Muth and Jace Larson each added hits. 

Post 320’s Lane Darrow logged two hits and drove in a run. Gavyn Dansby had the team’s other hit. Brady Fallon allowed two hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out two batters in his three-inning start. Post 320 plays Harrisburg Post 45 in the loser’s bracket on Thursday. 

 

Post 15 East 14, Brandon Valley Post 131 2 (5 innings)

RAPID CITY — Post 15 East racked up 12 hits to race past Brandon Valley Post 131 for an opening round win at the Class A Legion baseball tournament on Wednesday. Post 15 East will play Brookings Post 74 in the winner’s bracket on Thursday.

Myles Rees took the win on the hill for Post 15 East, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking one.

Ethan Bruns, Sawyer Tolk, Mason Tolrud, Cael Swanson, and Jack Smith each tallied two hits for Post 15 East. Smith, Swanson, Tolrud, and Andrew Glovich each had two RBI, while Rees, Bruns, Tolk, and Tate Schafer each added one RBI.

Trey Sejnoha took the loss for Brandon Valley Post 131, allowing four hits and five runs and one strikeout in two innings.

Logan Kelling led Brandon Valley Post 131 with three hits in three at bats, while Matt Brown and Austin Reiter each tallied one RBI.

Brandon Valley Post 131 will play Pierre Post 8 in the loser’s bracket on Thursday.


Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats 4, Harrisburg Post 45 2

RAPID CITY — The Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats held off Harrisburg Post 45 for an opening round win at the Class A Legion baseball tournament on Wednesday. The Post 22 Hardhats will play Mitchell Post 18 in the winner’s bracket on Thursday.

Palmer Jacobs led the Post 22 Hardhats on the mound, allowing two hits and two runs, while recording eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Harrison Good led the Post 22 Hardhats with two hits in two at bats, while Dylon Marsh drove in two runs.

Maddox Plack took the loss for Harrisburg, allowing five hits and four runs in four innings, while striking out two.

Lincoln Carlson and Max Carlson each had one hit to lead Harrisburg, while Lincoln Carlson also drove in two runs.

Harrisburg Post 45 plays Post 320 in the loser’s bracket on Thursday.
