Pierre 5, Sioux Falls Jefferson 4

PIERRE — Spencer Easland’s walk-off sacrifice fly lifted Pierre past Sioux Falls Jefferson in Game 1 of a Friday high school baseball doubleheader. 

It came after Jefferson plated three runs in the sixth inning, pulling ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Grayson Hunsley drove in George Stalley from third base on a Jefferson error. Easland’s walk-off sac fly came in the next at-bat, plating Lincoln Kienholz for the game-winning run. Kienholz finished 2 of 2 and drove in a run. Stalley and Matthew Hanson each had hits. Brady Getz earned the win after striking out four batters, allowing two hits, one earned run and walking one batter in his 4.2-inning start. 

Jefferson’s Noah Willis finished 2 of 3 and drove in two runs, while Mason Riley finished 2 of 3 and drove in a run. Connor Davis also had two hits, while Sam Siegfried finished with one hit and an RBI. Kyler Miritello struck out nine batters, allowed three hits, three earned runs and walked four batters in his five-inning start. 


Sioux Falls Jefferson 6, Pierre 1

PIERRE — Landon Weis struck out five batters and one earned run in Game 2 of a high school baseball doubleheader win over Pierre on Friday. 

Weis allowed five hits, one earned run and walked three batters in his complete-game performance. 

Thomas Heiberger finished 2 of 4, drove in three runs and smacked a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Mason Riley went 2 of 3, while Cohen Henry, Logan Riddle, Sam Siegfried and Connor Davis each had a hit. 

Pierre’s Jayden Wiebe, Grayson Hunsley, Matthew Hanson, Gary Nedved and Brecken Krueger each had a hit. Lincoln Kienholz drove in the lone run. Jett Zabel struck out three batters, allowed five hits, four runs (three earned) and walked five batters in his five-inning start. 


Mitchell 3, Yankton 0

MITCHELL — Landon Waddell fanned eight batters to lift Mitchell to a Game 1 high school baseball win over Yankton on Friday.

Waddell allowed three hits, zero runs and walked three batters in his six-inning start. Jake Helleloid pitched a scoreless inning of relief and allowed one hit. 

Dylan Soulek had two of Mitchell’s seven hits. Jace Larson, Mason Geraets, Karter Sibson, Brock Sparks and Carson Fahey also had hits. 

Joe Gokie, Jace McCorkell, Landen Loecker and Mac Ryken each had hits. Samuel Kampshoff struck out four batters, allowed seven hits, three runs (two earned) and walked two batters in his six-inning start. 


Mitchell 11, Yankton 1 (5 innings)

MITCHELL — Jake Helleloid struck out 10 Yankton batters to lift Mitchell to a Game 2 high school baseball victory over Yankton on Friday.

Helleloid allowed three hits, one run and walked two batters in his four-inning start. Peyton Schroder pitched a scoreless inning of relief and allowed one hit. 

Brock Sparks had two hits and two RBI, while Larson adrove in two runs. Seth Muth, Dylan Soulek, Jonah Schmidt, Helleloid and Landon Waddell each had a hit. 

Yankton’s Connor Teichroew, Dylan Prouty, Jace McCorkell and Mac Ryken each had a hit. Joe Gokie struck out three batters, gave up five hits, eight runs (four earned) and walked three batters in his three-inning start.
